1973 was a year for some brilliant horror films, but which one is your favourite? What makes it special to you? When did you first see it? Would you recommend it to the uninitiated? Sometimes it's a hard decision to just pick one film (even when you're limiting it to a single year!), but my favourite film of 1973 is... The Wicker Man - Robin Hardy One of finest films ever made, and in which both Lee and Woodward give spectacular performances. Trailer: Get the latest Flash Player to see this player. 1973 was a great year and both The Wicker Man and Don't Look Now are rightly regarded as great horror movies. However, as much as I love them, neither will ever touch The Exorcist which is, and always has been, my favourite movie of all time. It is not only the greatest horror film ever made, but a film that has incredible longevity and is about as powerful now as it was when it was first released.

I had a suspicion you'd go for The Exorcist, Nos. ![]() A very decent film it is too, although personally in addition to The Wicker Man I'd take Don't Look Now and Theatre of Blood over it - blasphemy I know! ![]() |

I've always found Theatre of Blood, The Satanic Rites of Dracula, The Creeping Flesh and The Vault of Horror great fun, but, yeah, it has to be The Exorcist.

THE EXORCIST is one of the best horror films ever made and would be in my top ten,but it isn't in the same league as both of these British classics

You've pretty much mentioned the best of '73 there B.E.-MESSIAH OF EVIL is another superbly haunting film, one of the best. THEATRE OF BLOOD is also a classic, another I never tire of watching. And FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN well,it's all about life,****ing and gallbladders innit? ![]()

Although I am a huge fan of Don't Look Now and it's 'B-movie', The Wicker Man, I feel The Exorcist is a better film than both and, unlike the other two, is a film Iowan never tire of watching. Judging films is extremely subjective but, in this case, The Exorcist was the best horror film released in 1973.
