It's interesting how similar this episode is to the very first episode Where is Everybody, apart from a few flourishes here and there, and then the ending too is kind of similar as well. It feels like Serling was re-telling Where is Everybody in a way, but including the elements he wished he'd included the first time. I like it a lot - especially the really strong central performance by Robert Cummings.

Hmm I found this a strange episode to open a new season....It wasn't bad,but it didn't grab me the way other episodes do.....not bad.

At last I've got round to getting my S2 box set. I watched it this episode yesterday and quite enjoyed it but, like already mentioned, it seemed a rehash of 'Where is Everybody?' I remember Tom mentioning in the podcast that Serling regretted not having the scene where they find the cinema ticket in the test pilot's pocket. Maybe Serling wanted to amend this with the sand in the shoe scene? I really love the alienation episodes.
