Ultimate Directors

as you all know i am just starting to seriously start collecting horror films.
if i could i would get em all i am partially interested in but selling cheese doesn't make much cash. so i am looking for the ultimate directors. i am not looking for Hollywood styles but looking for good old gore style ones such as the fulci films im collecting now. so i am asking for your fine advice people if you were to list about 5 ultimate directors to collect who would it be?

In my experience, all directors (no matter how acclaimed) have a few stinkers in their film resume, so my advice would be maybe research each film before committing to buy their entire catalogue!

Concerning horror, here are a few suggestions from me:

Dario Argento
Mario Bava
John Carpenter
Terence Fisher
Lucio Fulci
Michele Soavi

Obviously, these are extremely subjective examples as there will be plenty of horror fans who would possibly not rate one or more of the above choices.

Also, not strictly horror, but David Cronenberg is definitely worth looking into, in my opinion.
