Not to everyone's taste, but the first series was a hidden gem, stuck away on BBC4 along with Getting On, whilst that squirrel faced **** Mcintyre is on non stop! Ahem.
Shame on the beeb for not repeating the first series to herald this return!!!

True enough, but whilst they churn out shit like Hotter than my Bride's Daughter, BBC4 is being threatened with the chop!

they need to "gie their heids a shak'" as we say up north.

Totally agree,although im still holding out for a reality show based on live stonings of adultress wifes from Iran,hosted by Gok Wan,until then the beeb can F**K THEMSELVES.

Rising Damp (1980).
The tv spin off movie,hit and miss,but probably the only real movie moneyspinner in the 70s and early 80s for British cinema.
A feature film version was made in 1980, reusing several storylines from the television series. As Richard Beckinsale had died the year before, Christopher Strauli was cast as a new character, art student John. The character of Alan is briefly referenced, as having left. The film's theme song features lyrics by Eric Chappell and was released as a 7" single. The B-side features comedy dialogue between Rigsby and Miss Jones.
Philip is revealed not to be a chief's son from Africa, but from Croydon, adopting his false persona to start a new life and gain respect. When Rigsby finds out, he tells Philip that he believes he must have some royal ancestry and he does not tell the rest of the characters about his deception. This plotline is from the original stageplay The Banana Box.

A hugely enjoyable theatrical take on an already brilliant TV comedy imo. Wonderful stuff. Both Steptoe And Son movies and Porridge's cinema outing are great too.

Who remembers the channel 4 show Who Dares Wins that aired in the early '80s? I would love to see it again to see if it still holds up as I thought that the two pandas in the zoo were the funniest things on tv at the time.

No one writes comedy and pathos like Galton and Simpson,and although tv spin offs strain at the hour and half mark the performances of Harry H. Corbett and Wilfrid Brambell are always joy to watch.And what can be funnuer than a naked old man in a bath tub.Plus i luv seeing the locations in all there 70s greyness.

Steptoe And Son: Stripper Zita settles for any old iron when rag-and-bone man Harold Steptoe marries her after a wild stag night. Joining the newlyweds on honeymoon in Spain, rusty Albert tries putting his son's well-laid plans on the scrap heap. It seems he's succeeded when Harold deserts his bride, but before he can utter good riddance to bad rubbish Harold learns she's pregnant and he's the proud father of the litter!
To receive an 'A' (PG) cinema certificate some brief nudity was removed from the striptease scene. DVD releases are fully uncut.

A man after my own heart and i'm in total agreement. You simply can't help feeling sorry for Harold Steptoe as all he ever wanted was to do something with his life and advance himself. But the poor guy was always held back by the family ties that bind.

Quote from the vintage colour episode, A Star Is Born as a dejected Harold leaves the local playhouse after trying to make it as a stage thespian and having his thunder ruthlessly stolen by his father:

Young kid: "Mister, are you an actor?"

Harold: "No, i'm just the son of a rag and bone man....and that's all i'll ever be."

Another classic line from timeless installment, The Desperate Hours:

Harold: "All my life you've been suckin' the life blood outta me! Dracula was a better father than what you are!! At least he only had a go at night, you're at it all day long!!!"
Steptoe And Son Ride Again especially has a hilarious sequence starring the late Milo 'O Shea as drunken Dr. Popplewell.

Don't forget the likeable On The Buses movie trilogy too and it's either ITV 2 or 3 who screen these films quite regularly. Usually around public holidays.
