Monty Python on TV is in a league of its own, really. Many sketches are still very funny, even though fans already know the punch-lines (or can recite whole texts from memory!). The intellectual and the farcical has never been combined so well since. I'm not a big fan of sitcoms (especially recent British stuff)... but I liked Frasier, M*A*S*H, and off-beat shows like Monk. Yes, HIGNFY, was always a laugh with Merton and Hislop... but it lacked proper focus after they sacked anchorman Angus. TV stuff I particularly enjoyed was the Comic Strip presents... series. Sometimes brilliant satire! Strike! was a classic... (Who can forget Peter Richardson playing Al Pacino as Arthur Scargill?) GLC was another work of rare comedy genius... (with Robbie Coltrane playing Charles Bronson as Ken Livingstone... and there was theme song by Kate Bush).

- 15 Storeys High - Knowing Me, Knowing You & I'm Alan Partridge - The Day Today, Brass Eye, Jam (basically anything involving Chris Morris is usually superb) - Bottom - Garth Marenghi's Darkplace - Nathan Barley - The Mighty Boosh (to an extent, series 1 was superb then they gradually got worse and worse) - The IT Crowd - Father Ted - Blackadder - Mr. Bean - Frasier - King of Queens - 30 Rock and a load of others, I would be here all day if I had to list them all. |

Without a doubt the funniest episode of The IT Crowd has to be The Work Outing where they go to the Theatre.Has me in stitches every time I see it.

Ohhh...I do love a bit of comedy-TV-on-DVD! Just went through the old DVD collection, and do you guys want the long list, or the long list? Attempting to list my absolute favourites first: - Brass Eye (Being an Aussie, I had never heard of this, until I saw a segment from "Paedogeddon!" on one of those Channel 4 countdowns. I made a note, got the DVD, and I have to say it is quite possibly the most brilliant show I have ever seen! I try to get all my Aussie friends watching it now and am thinking about buying DVDs to just give them next time I'm in Aust. ) - Chaser's War On Everything (Brilliant Aussie political/news satire/sketch show/bit of everything. Sadly now over ) - Curb Your Enthusiasm - Peep Show -----UK----- - Ali G - Armando Iannucci Shows - Balls Of Steel - Bo Selecta (after a few episodes, tends to become addictive!) - Charlie Brooker (havn't seen a lot, but what I've seen, I've enjoyed) - Chris Morris (The Day Today, Jam, but Brass Eye being my fav!) - Extras - Garth Marenghis Darkplace (Spin-Off 'talk-show' "Man To Man with Dean Learner" was also very good) - Nathan Barley - IT Crowd - Mighty Boosh - Mr. Bean - The Office [UK] - Smoking Room - Snuff Box - Spaced - Trigger Happy TV -----US/Canadian----- - Chappelle's Show - Metalocalypse - Moral Orel - South Park - Trailer Park Boys - Tom Green (great for strange, "WTF?"-kind-of-laughs) -----Aussie----- (ie. the stuff noones heard of ) - Glass House & Good News Week (kind of Aussie versions of HIGNFY) - John Safran (Music Jamboree / Vs. God / Race Relations) - The Adventures of Lano and Woodley - Pizza - Ronnie John's Half Hour - Thank God You're Here - Wilfred also still enjoy "Hey Hey It's Saturday" (live Aussie variety show, which has just made a come-back after 10 years...on a Wednesday ) ...I also have Arrested Development, Lead Balloon and Time Trumpet on my "to check out" list. I probably still missed a few out...but I think this post is long enough for now! |
