Robin of Sherwood - Cromm Cruac

Cromm Cruac - a phantom village created by the sorcerer Gulnar (Richard O' Brien) named after the Irish deity Cromm Cruac who demanded human sacrifices.

The episode is a definite exploration of folk horror. The phantom village reminded me of Whitewood from 1960's The City of the Dead with added Wicker Man vibes and the finale which had the outlaws battling faceless cowled figures brandishing swords and wearing long black decaying robes in slow motion sword play was... well, i'm sure you can guess. Oh and not forgetting the Lovecraftian demon in the waterfall...

A fine episode

My new TV can get more streamers than my other one could, so since I've ditched Netflix for the time being I thought I'd sign up and see what Disney+ has going for it. We'll see how it goes, but with the Fox catalogue it's already got a lot more than Netflix does for me, plus Who is coming in November over here of course.

Started watching Werewolf By Night last night but turned it off. Felt too forced and mannered and couldn't get into it.

But I did watch the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which was enormous fun! Very funny and quite touching. I really enjoyed this!

First ever ep of NYPD Blue on Disney+. Haven't seen this for nigh on 30 years. Loved the first season, noped out of season 2 within a few weeks of Jimmy Smits.
Watching this again I was impressed how well it stands up. And Caruso was dynamite as John Kelly, he was never as good again in anything else and the show was never as good without him. Biggest mistake by an actor in TV history? Possibly.

I've now finished Robin of Sherwood.

A fine two parter to finish off in which sorcerer Richard O' Brien returns and summons the Wolf of Fenriz to kill Herne The Hunter.

Sadly the conclusion isn't quite right as it was supposed to continue for a fourth series but was canceled so several long running plot strands are left hanging but the actual double episode The Hour of the Wolf came to it's natural end.

Really impressive when it got going with all the folklore and mythology even if it does take it's influence and ideas from a myriad of sources which have nothing to do with Robin Hood.

A recommended set from Network if you can still get hold of it with a good selection of commentaries and makings of as well as new interviews with writer Richard Carpenter, Clannad and others

Watching Star Maidens (78?)

What fun. What I love about SF is that it always reflects the time it was made in ... and this one is a great example of that cough cough.

Two fugitives land on Earth, but their "owners" are hot on their heels, even it means banging heads with our authorities ahem.
A hoot if the first three episodes are to be believed ... more later!!!
