I enjoyed Mark Of The Devil (especially Michael Holm's gorgeous score) though I prefer Witchfinder General too.

The old Redemption video of Mark was absolutely massacred.

If I remember correctly,so was their video of WITCHFINDER.....
You've got to give it to them though,Redemption had a lot of balls sourcing and releasing those films in the nineties....they'd have saved themselves a fortune if they'd have used the Vipco method.....'Who owns it?**** it,release it!'

Amazingly their release of Witchfinder got through intact. They used a composite version which blended the restored uncut & German (nude) prints together. Redemption's Pete Walker films also made it through uncut. Perhaps Judge Ferman was in a good mood that day.

Unfortunately he then put most of their other releases through the shredder.

I could have swore Vince, that the WG video I had mentioned something in small print about bbfc cuts...
Perhaps it was another Redemption video...I am going back over ten years here....

The Target/Castle videos featured the cut cinema print. I have the Redemption Witchfinder video here, and the back sleeve states that it's the Director's Cut ('Only the BBFC can change that'). A coded message in case they decided to cut it (which they didn't).

Mark Of The Devil was cut by nearly 5 mins and was missing the rape scene and most of the torture/execution scenes too. In fact there wasn't much evidence of anything in it really.

It was almost a case of dancing in the streets when the BBFC released such stuff as Witchfinder General, Stagefright, Frightmare and The Black Cat (!) etc uncut in those days. As vince says, 'failed director' Ferman cut much of Redemption's output to shreds. I remember he even forced a five second cut of an eyeball being removed in Crazy Desires Of A Murderer, probably because he thought it was 'unneccessary'. Tosser

Not Redemption releases but Ferman also rejected titles such as Nightmare Maker, Island Of Death (a pre-cut print), and Class Of 1984 (the heavily cut cinema version).

Many more as well. Too numerous to list here.
