I've definitely always thought of Jaws and Alien as horror films.

However, do you guys think we should allow Taxi Driver, Straw Dogs, and A Clockwork Orange for the list?

I lean closer to the side of yes for Straw Dogs and A Clockwork Orange than I do Taxi Driver. Though, there are some truly terrifying things in Taxi Driver.

I think we should stick with what is traditionally considered as a Horror film.

My stomach tells me that we could include Straw Dogs somehow, but I would have big problems with both Taxi Driver and A Clockwork Orange. Of course, you can do a lot if interpretation, but sorry - both films are no Horror films.

All three are mainly Thrillers, and therefore I suggest we exclude them and the like.

Greetings!

I'd say no to all three personally. I'm not including any of them on my list. My top 20 currently looks like:

1. The Wicker Man
2. The Tenant
3. Don’t Look Now
4. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
5. Suspiria
6. Who Can Kill a Child?
7. Alien
8. Martin
9. Let’s Scare Jessica to Death
10. Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny, and Girly
11. Eraserhead
12. Wake in Fright
13. Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue
14. Long Weekend
15. The Exorcist
16. Deep Red
17. Alice, Sweet Alice
18. Daughters of Darkness
19. The House with Laughing Windows
20. The Shout

Just the other 80 that need shuffling around . . .

After seeing a few lists here, Black Christmas rates highly.

I've just never understood this. Its just a bunch of folk who swear a lot and a bloke who lives in the wardrobe. Its not scary, its not gory, its just nothing. When i watched the dvd a couple of years back i was sooo underwhelmed.

Please someone say why its worth me watching again.

I like it. I did find it quite creepy, especially the voice on the phone, and I enjoyed the banter between the kids. Plus Margot Kidder is in it. There, three reasons to watch it again . . .

Not only is it one of the first 'modern' slashers, it has also never been equaled (in my opinion). As for why I like it... well, for me, it contains the perfect blend of suspense to kills ratio (plus the killings are fairly nasty); plus, the derangement where the killer is concerned appeals a great deal, and I also like the Christmassy setting. The characters also seem very 'real' - none of this dumb bimbo and charicature bullshit that plagues many slashers. As slashers go, it's very believable in a lot of ways.

...and it also has Olivia Hussey AND John Saxon.

Why? If you don't like/rate it then so be it.

...It's not like you're one of those crazy bastards who doesn't even feature Dawn of the Dead in their top 20. (Or are you?)
