I've had a lot of experiences like that, to the point that either I refuse to recommend films to certain people when they ask, or they refuse to ask me!

I did recommend my Mum watch this several years ago as she had (surprisingly, I thought) never seen it and she ended up loving it.

I agree with you there. It is very leisurely paced, and is certaiinly a film that focuses on building atmosphere and suspense, which is another reason why I love it.

I first saw it on TV.. years and years ago when I was probably too young to be watching it but my mum has always liked her creepy horror too. It's been one of my favourites ever since. I find it still haunting whenever I watch it and it was a success with the Mrs too.

You have impeccable taste sir.

It's one of those films that rewards you with something new every time you watch it.

I'm dying to watch it again, but I'll wait until the BD arrives.

What do you all reckon?
Venice makes for a brilliant cinematic setting, don't it?

It definitely stands up to repeat viewings and I'd go as far as to say as much as I loved the film the first time I saw it, I think I enjoyed if more the second time.

Venice is great both as a setting and a place to go for a holiday. It's certainly the most impressive city I've seen and I've been to some great cities.

Not many films have made such good use of the Venice scenery as this has (Although, Who Saw Her Die? is another contender).

I was tempted to watch it again last night, Reaps (this thread certainlty inspired the thought!), but I've decided to wait for the Blu-Ray.

It's not a particularly great film, though a lot better than its reputation would suggest, but The Tourist is another example of a film that utilizes Venice to the hilt.

It's really not a bad film - if you can look beyond the cardboard characters, it's a fun caper.

When I got married,14 years ago,a travel agent recommended we not go to Venice on honeymoon,as it stank!
I wish to hell I hadn't listened to her!

The night scenes in Don't Look Now are especially effective.
Mist mazes and tunnels,of which you never know what's hiding round the next corner.

The bodies being pulled from the canal and the Italian police's suspicion of John Baxter, just adds to the impending sense of doom....

And,boy,do we get it at the climax!

The same thing happened to me two years ago!

We were told that it stank and that is was over-priced and 'boring'... so we went to Norway instead!

We ended up in Galway!

Not a good setting for a classic chiller!
