What's wrong with sex and sexuality being a theme in cinema? No-one seems to moan about erotic elements in horror films and gialli.

I am very confused.
We're all dismissive of things we're not interested in - including you.

I'm not 'against' erotica in cinema at all, I just find erotic dramas boring and uninteresting.

Very happy with these announcements Blow Out came out of nowhere didn't it? I'll definitely be picking up 6 of the 9 (The two Bava's, Motel Hell, Spider Baby, Knightriders and Blow Out). I may give Foxy Brown a try, I'm not expecting it to be something that really appeals to me though. The Erotica titles certainly aren't for me. Great round of releases. If the last two quarters are anything like the two they've announced so far, 2013 is going to be an amazing year for genre fans, and Arrow Video.

Personally, never found it particularly interesting! I don't mind sex and sexuality as a theme when it seems to go somewhere, like Almodovar's work, or films like Sex and Lucia, but when the entire point is titillation, it's just a bit vapid for me. Kind of like how stuff like August Underground etc are just a succession of pointless gore shots, after a while it's just boring.

I've tried checking out Tinto Brass in the past, but it's just never really gripped me. I bought a couple of films from HMV back in the day (which was quite embarrasing to my 20 year old self, those covers!), one of which had a girl on a bike showing her arse (can't remember the title) and was just mindnumbingly bored.

Believe me, I'm open to watching them if they're good, but I've not seen a single one yet that's even remotely entertained me.

An aside though - I don't really buy the "why not just watch porn?" argument though, they're two completely different things. One serves to ignite / relieve one's sexual desires, the other is purely entertainment designed to be risque. Might as well say "why not watch execution videos?" whenever AV release a horror film.

Did Spider Baby get a UK release before? I think those comments are usually territory-specific.

They sort of insinuated one was brand new full stop.

Not a bad set overall. Glad I waited on the Criterion Blow Out although I don't like it as much as some on here. Be interesting to compare the two. Spider Baby and Motel Hell I'll be having and obviously the two Bava's.

They mentioned that it had never had a UK release since VHS, so it must be Knightriders. It's great that it's a title people have been throwing at Arrow to release for years now and it's finally here. Artwork is great for it too.
