DUEL

Director: Steven Speilberg
Starting: Dennis Weaver
Here is my first film review. I will put up a spoiler tag when I think I am giving something away. So here it goes.
Yesterday was my very first viewing of Duel (which I think started as a Made-for-TV-Movie!), and it terrified me! As a passenger who has witnessed annoying tailgating and been in an accident with another vehicle, I really related at how terrifying this could be.
Duel is about a man on his way to a meeting, played by Denis Weaver. Whilst driving, he gets stuck behind a ten-wheeled lorry (something I also relate to, having been stuck behind tractors a thousand times). After sneaking out in front of the lorry, the lorry driver gets a massive grudge against DW. What starts off as just mischievous toying with DW, becomes increasingly hostile
One of the strongest, and scariest points I this film ( for me anyway) was that you neve see the face of Lorry Driver. If made today, they'd show his face within LD's second scene!
The only two films this reminded me of were the excellent Breakdown and the shite Road Kill. It's not surprising that Speilberg went on to do Jaws, as it is a film of unbearable tension. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I can only imagine that The Master of Suspence himself was a massive inspitlration on this film. It's just a shame Speilberg doesn't make films like this anymore
This lorry, In my opinion, is one of the scariest movie 'monsters' I've ever seen. Gigantic, unkillable and he never gives up! It also helps that the long desert roads have very little passing traffic, as it makes his cries for help unheard. Even when he does meet other people [spoiler=mr. Lorry driver], mr. LD is still not afraid of getting his revenge and seems desperate to run over DW at any cost, even in front of a bunch if kids.
Well I can think of any more to say. I've think I've covered most of my opinions of this film so now for a rating.
8/10
Don't know what my next film will be. Perhaps you guys can give me ideas, after all, you have seen about a tenth of my collection
I hope you like this review. Feel free to tell me where I need to improve.
Fin.
