Visitor Q

Visitor Q was part of a V-Cinema (Japanese "Straight-to-video genre) series on the nature of love

In which the already taboo busting Japanese director of such close to the bone entertainment as Ichi The Killer, Full Metal Yakuza and Imprint decides to try and offend everyone on the face of the earth with a low budget shot on video opus that seeks to scramble your synapses by throwing as much degradation and filth onto your TV screen as is possible without being sectioned as a dangerous lunatic (It happened to De Sade after all).

So...if you every hankered after a movie featuring a lactating middle aged women* covering her kitchen in milk while her son swims face down in the results...Visitor Q is here for you! This is the movie that has a weak willed journalist father investigating prostitution, who on discovering that his daughter is hooker, actually sleep with her for research purposes...What an opener!

From there it's just a riot of Japanese weirdness as a cavalcade of necrophilia, human excrement, violence, incest, sadistic bullying and microphones used as sexual weapons confronts you and dares you to keep watching. This film will make you laugh out loud and then question your sanity. It's central points about family dysfunction and the ultimate victory of the unit over outsiders comes through loud and clear, as all the crazed events are set up to test the family to the limit. Despite the extreme, surreal style of the movie, it still has it's own moral center.

Director Takashi Miike's body of work encompasses everything from zombie musicals to sick-minded crime flicks but this has to be one of his the strangest outings.

*... And don't think for a moment that it's a special effect with rubber breasts, the actress involved had recently given birth and was chosen because she was nursing at the time...
