Carnival of Soul
This was a one off movie by a company who specialized in industrial and educational films for businesses and schools. The producers obviously didn't realize they were making a classic that would go on to influence many genre filmmakers, including Romero who was clearly influenced in his choice of zombie make-up for "Night of the Living Dead"
A teenage drag race goes horribly wrong causing a car to plummet from a bridge into a fast flowing river. One lone survivor drags herself out on a muddy bank... From then on all is not well for our cursed heroine. As the moody organ music score plays in the background she slowly realizes that her connections to the real world are slipping and a ghoul-faced man is appearing to her in the most unlikely of places.
As she travels to a different town to start work as a church organist she can't avoid the terrible fate that is inevitable as she is inexplicably drawn to an abandoned lake side pavillion...
Anyone with even a passing interest in the history and development of the horror genre has to pick this one up!!!
