Get Christie Love
Get Christie Love is a TV movie spin off from the blaxploitation movies of the early 70s that featured ballsy afro queens who didn't take any crap and meted out justice with a Kung Fu kick and a mean one liner. Think movies like Coffy, Cleopatra Jones or Foxy Brown. The film was successful enough to spawn it's own shortlived TV series.
Following the usual path of female lead black movies of the time, Christie Love is going to smash a drugs ring but in less regular fashion, probably because of the films TV roots which wouldn't have allowed a vigilante character from the streets, she is cop. Her mission is to go undercover and cosy up to a big dealers girlfriend. Heading straight into the belly of the beast, Christie takes a massive risk but will she get out alive, let alone carry out her mission?
Get Christie Love will delight Blaxploitation lovers but casual viewers may be left cold. It's certainly got a lot of great 70s fashion and decor (something that I personally love about these movies) plus some choice dialogue, but it's TV pilot nature means that plot threads are left open for later episodes and questions that need solutions remain unanswered. Also, because of stricter rules on content it is a tad cosy in comparison to some of the sleazier efforts in the genre. That said, for fun, tacky 70s thrills this is still a good watch.
