Silver
Takashi Miike is capable of producing some extremely flawed cinema alongside his works of cultish genius like Audition or Full Metal Yakuza. But, even though Silver is among his least effective movies, in Miike world even the lesser work is still mildly entertaining. Drenched in bloodshed and perversity, Miike Amoral visions may have got a little fuzzy with Silver but as a comic book orgy of smutty sexual weirdness and sickening violence it's still worth watching, especially if your already a fan of the Japanese director.
The films ridiculous plot revolves around a young women who seek revenge against the gangsters who killed her family. Her solution? What any dutiful daughter would do in the service of her loved ones...Become a crime fighting Pro-wrestler, fighting her way through the corrupt Wrestling League!
So she fights the kind of OTT villains last seen being battered by Adam West in the 60s Batman series, plays the melodramatic vigilante role to the hilt and the movie moves along at such a frantic pace that it's easy to forget just how bad it is.
As pure entertainment it's a riot as long as you power down your brain for a while and try and forget the numerous plot threads picked up then abandoned before they can be resolved. Miike is guilty of over excitement, leaving the film scrappy and unfinished. Still, It's never boring and has pulpy charm, It plays up it's comic book roots and the bad acting works in it's favour, giving it a stupid tone that makes it more fun to watch. Worth buying for Miike fans.
