Fwiends, Womans and countwymen...Part 5
At about this time last year I started looking for old friends on FB. I found a few of them; Michael Claxton, Mick Lee and Lesley Paget were the main ones. I suppose I had best tell all and sundry where they "fit in!...
Having just moved from Shiregreen (S5 Sheffield postal area) to Wincobank (S9 Sheffield postal area)I decided to be "arsie" and go to Shiregreen Middle School (not TOO "arsie" though because it was right next door to the school whose catchment area I fell in, Concorde Middle School). It wasn't too long before I made many friends, one of the longest lasting friendships was with Michael Claxton. He was, and still is, a great lad. We used to play Subbuteo a lot, as Mike loved football and I loved games. Mike's dad was the Coach for Rotherham United so football was all pervading in the Claxton household but so was music and we liked the same sort of stuff, ROCK!
Mike and I sort of went our seperate ways for a while when we started at the local comprehensive, Hinde House School. We hadn't fallen out we'd just drifted, naturally, apart because of different interests, I suppose. My mates for the next couple of years were; Kevin Cocker, Richard Marsh, Ashley Dent, and Andrew Glaves. We also hung around with two older mates; Martin Windle and Andrew Thomlinson. Martin had a car and Andrew had a heated shed with music and electronics. Music was, once again, the cohesive force behind our merry band (and we were often very merry on home made beer).
In my final two years at school I became part of a "mini-clique" in most of my classes. We were fast friends who looked after one another; Andrew Jones (great artist), Freda Collins (beautiful with a massive afro that she hid all our ciggies in), Mick Lee (hard man with some unexpected depths), Lesley Paget (a razor-sharp wit and so easy to be friends with) and me (awkward and skinny with nothing to offer to the rest of the group). We hung around together in school and Mick and I hung out after school too as we lived close to each other.
I was 12-16 years old, teenage boys are often confused about their feelings and are often, stupidly, led down dark and dangerous paths... I started smoking!
I found Mike Claxton online, almost by accident and that prompted the search for others...
That's enough of that for now, catch y' later.
