Forgot to mention how much I'm loving this Room To Dream , that David Lynch thing I picked up. Half factual, half his rememberance of said events. Slightly typical, as he never does things except his way haha.
Recommended.

I'm also finding it difficult to concentrate on reading so inspired by your post I downloaded The Monk by Matthew Lewis. Because it's so old with archaic language, there's no way I'd be able to read it now but quite enjoying it being read to me on long journeys. 15 hours long though so even with the amount of driving I do it might take awhile.

Can't believe I made this post just 6 days ago and have now finished The Monk. 15 hours of driving in 6 days for work...!

Anyway, just to note, the novel is 18th Century exploitation (filth?) with murder, torture, rape, and more that I won't spoil. Thoroughly enjoyed it

I wouldn't recommend trying to read it because of the old fashioned language but as an audio book it's worth a spin.

I wasn't aware of this movie - What's it like Dem? I'd have thought it would need to be a mini-series to do the book justice. Also in the book the last chapter is incredibly gruesome (the R-rating for the film suggests its been toned down) and would need some spectacular special effects to realise it.

My next audio book is She by H. Ryder Haggard. I'm looking forward to seeing how different it is from the movies.

There's also a 1972 film starring Franco Nero based on the Monk which i seem to remember being on TV years ago, I remember watching it but not much else.
Also a 90's film with Paul McGann but I haven't seen that one.

I can't remember a thing about it i'm afraid.

It's years since i saw it. I'll dig it out and give it a rewatch this week. Keep looking in the What Films Have You Seen? thread for my review.

Completed She. The Hammer film version, notwithstanding the change of location from East Africa to North Africa, is very close to the book. The slight changes that were made I would say were mostly an improvement in dramatic terms, although they could possible made a bit more of Ayesha's supernatural powers which I think were absent from the film.

I've now been through two audiobooks and must say enjoyment depends a lot on the narrator. The Monk's reader was quite expressive and kept me in the zone even when he was reading female parts. UNfortunately the narrator for She was a bit stilted and read the novel mostly with a mid-atlantic accent which I thought was inappropriate for a English novel. Also his female voices were laughable at times especially when he was trying to sound evil.

Oh well, on the whole I enjoyed it and doubt I would have gotten through it if it wasn't on audio.

Next up is Twice-Told Tales by Nathaniel Hawthorne.
