In anticipation of next weeks Arrow release of Deranged (which unexpectedly turned up today), I've been watching a lot of films lately inspired by Ed Gein, namely all 7 Chainsaw films, the Steve Railsback Ed Gein film and American Psycho (slightly inspired by Gein IMO). I've also been re-reading some of the many books I have on the notorious killer, it's fair to say the guy and his crimes fascinate me a great deal. These are two of my favourites on this extremely macabre of subject matters

Have you seen the Kane Hodder film Rik?

Yeah, I caught it on the Horror Channel a couple of years back. I thought it was ok, despite the fact Kane Hodder is a huge man and not a small weedy looking farmer. I've been thinking of buying it on DVD, but only if I find it cheap enough

Cocaine Nights done, may have to reread as didn't really pan out the way I thought. So rerererereading Crash again. What a book, Croneneberg must have been fired up by his Naked Lunch adventure, because it still doesn't seem filmable.

It's worth a penny (or £1.27 inc. p&p), from what I remember anyway, certainly better than B.T.K also starring Hodder, that was pure shite IMO!

Neil Gaiman, who has a connection with Portsmouth was in the city today for two reasons; a small unnamed stretch of road by Southsea sea front has been named after his new book and his first appointment was to unveil the street sign "The Ocean at the End of the Lane", The second reason was "An Evening with Neil Gaiman" at the Pompey Guildhall. Honestly I have been to concerts there with fewer attendees, the place was packed. Mr Gaiman was very entertaining and self-assured, read his works superbly and answered questions from the audience with spontaneity and wit. All in all a very entertaining evening!

It's been many years since I last read a Clive Barker novel (probably Weaveworld), but a recent screening of his experimental short films has led me back to his books again. I picked up Imajica on Saturday and have been dipping into it every chance I get...
