A film that still stimulates debate.
The first 'nasty' I ever watched many moons ago and it still sticks with me today. I can forego the animal footage, but am not massively horrified by it (yes it is exploitative and if it wasn't in the film it loses nothing but it is part of the movies notoriety), I am however still to this day moved by the rape sequences, they are powerful pieces of cinema.

One of the greatest films ever made in my opinion, it encapsulates a genre, a period of time and becomes more and more relevant as every year ticks by.

If I remember correctly (it was 5 months ago and I'm getting old!), Francesca Ciardi said at the GFT that they did indeed lie low after filming. A great lady who has, like a fine wine, gotten better with age btw.

That is correct. I'm sure it's mentioned on the Aussie disc somewhere, but this is lifted from Wikipedia:
Quote:
To make matters worse for Deodato, the actors had signed contracts with him and the producers ensuring that they would not appear in any type of media, motion pictures, or commercials for one year after the film's release in order to promote the idea that the film was truly the recovered footage of missing documentarians. Thus, when Deodato claimed that he had not killed the group, questions arose as to why the actors were in no other media if they were alive.
Eventually, Deodato was able to prove that the violence was staged. He contacted Luca Barbareschi and told him to gather the other three actors. After he voided the contracts in order to avoid life in prison, Deodato brought the foursome onto the set of an Italian television show, which satisfied the courts. He still had to prove, however, that the impalement scene was merely a special effect...

Re : the Road to Hell sequence. It's also to be found (within the film) on the Studio 2606 Media Madness dvd, released in Holland in 2006, which I'm almost certain is a port of the EC Ultrabit Edition.

Edit : terrible grammar.

There is more differences in the Last Road To Hell sequences than simply 10secs of footage.
The following is lifted from the Aussie Siren DVD (ie and the Grindhouse Releasing US DVD) - and serves as an introduction to the "uncut" LRtH Extra Feature:
Quote:
Last Road To Hell (Alternate Version)
One of the mysteries of CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST is an explination for the alternate cuts of LAST ROAD TO HELL, the film-within-the-film viewed by Professer Monroe. Presented here is the version which no longer exists in the negative elements of the movie. This version contains two additional shots - a wide shot of a firing squad and a closer angle of the dead victim, with a black bag over his head, as well as a small trim in the final shot. The most significant difference is that of the titles. Every title card displays different credits. This version was "presented by PABS," whereas the version currently in the feature is "presented by BDC." All of the crew credits are different as well. "Photography JACK ANDERS MARK TOMASO" is replaced by "Directed by ALAN YATES," "Assistant director and continuity FAYE DANIELS" is replaced by "Photography MARK WILLIAMS JACK ANDERS," and the final credit "Directed by ALAN YATES," in its more logical position, is inexplicably replaced by "Assistant Director SHANDA TOMMASO" (different first name and spelling of last name). Grindhouse Releasing will continue to investigate the reasons behind these changes, and update you with the information we recover via our website www.CannibalHolocaust.net.
There has been no updates on the website.
Just wanted to try and clear this up for people, as it seems to be a common thought that the only difference is 10secs cut from the sequence, when it is really a completely re-edited scene.

I'm thinking, with it getting near the middle of March, it could be October again before we see one.

Sorry for the mini hijacking of the thread folks.
