Australian 1979 newspaper advert for 'Phantasm', where it was shown under the alternate title 'The Never Dead' (to avoid any confusion with a 1976 Australian softcore porn film entitled 'Fantasm')

I'd definitely have gone to see Every Which Way But Loose from those showings.

That's one I *DID* see at the cinema... and the sequel 'Any Which Way You Can' (although as two separate films and not as a double feature)

From that list, the one I wanted to see was 'Love At First Bite', but it didn't come to my local cinema - The Ritz in Gosport

Yes i saw it as well. Wasn't old enough to see the sequel which was higher rated.

A little hypothetical because this was just before I was born, but if I didn't see Phantasm, which would probably have been my pick, I would have gone to watch Superman: The Movie to see if it made me believe that a man could fly and to find out what effect the film had on others.

That's another one I saw at the cinema when it first came out

I *DID* believe a man could fly, and I tried it myself (with disastrous results!)

It just goes to show the power of films on a young mind

As a (disturbing) sidebar to this, when I saw 'The Birth Of A Nation', it was so powerful, I was left fully supporting the KKK - God knows the effect this film must have had on people in the Southern States of America when it was first released in 1915 (considering slavery had been abolished and African Americans were given their freedom and citizenship less than 50 years previously)

I saw Superman: The Movie at the cinema as well. It was one of my earliest cinema going memories. I would have been seven, maybe eight, depending on when it landed at Barnoldswick Majestic cinema.
