I've been put off buying this due to the high price tag but now I've seen the trailer and now know Florinda Bolkan plays the lead I'm gonna have to get it. After witnessing her skills as an actress in Flavia and Footprints she's fast becoming one of my favourite Italian stars.

I was expecting this to look better than the R1 release but I didn't realise the AV quality would be so much better. I'm keeping both of them so I have both versions and extra features, the Media Blasters/Shriek Show one also has more interesting packaging so they are complementary releases.

I have the Shriek Show remastered version of the film, which I still think looks very good, but when I bought the UK DVD I was blown away by the image quality. The colours, the framing, in fact every aspect of the image, are all superior to any other version released worldwide. I believe that the UK transfer originates from the original film negatives. The film is very good too!

I guess there's no chance of a blu ray release anytime soon? As for the DVD releases go, I just wanna clarify a couple things: The UK Optimum DVD has the best transfer but no extras and the remastered single disc Media Blasters has the best features as the 2-disc version is out of print. Is that the general consensus?

There's no HD master, the transfer was done in SD.

The Optimum one is the longest version as well.

And the additional footage that's been re-inserted into the film is of a different source but looks as good as it can I assume? The version I saw a few months back had a scene were the subtitles didn't work. I guess that must've been from the same extended version? Either way, good to know there was no HD master. I don't wanna worry about double-dipping if I decide to pick up the DVD down the road.

Anyone know if the same applies for THE STRANGE VICE OF MRS. WARDH? I'd love to get my hands on a blu ray of that at some point!
