Will the Footprints DVD have the original Italian soundtrack? The English dubs for most if not all gialli are utterly horrible and totally destroy the atmosphere of the films.

Footprints was shot mainly in English. The main cast aren't dubbed.

As far as I know, almost no Italian films had live sound recording at the time. So in that sense they had no original language, and any voices were dubbed in at the studio in post-production. But while the Italian voices were mostly done with care, the English ones were usually recorded in haste and often supervised by technicians who had little or no English themselves. Moreover, the English texts were sometimes quite moronic, to the point of missing or distorting important plot points.

Le Orme may be an exception - if you have any specific information on that count, I would be most interested to know, - but I saw the film in Italian and was quite satisfied with that version. With the English one I am not yet familiar.

Trust me - it's great in English and we're honest if we prefer an alternate version - hence why some Shameless discs now come with both mixes. This English track makes sense and is very well done.

Where did you get this information from?

There's a very interesting interview with Nick Alexander - One of Rome’s leading ADR dubbers of Italian cinema back in the 70's - on this very subject which I'm sure you'd find fascinating...
