It's an MMO so it's not like the storyline games, but they do have story arcs as main quest lines which you need to complete to get to the endgame. You can play for free up to level 35 so it's worth a go to see if you like it. I think you can buy the non-expansion pack version for about a tenner.

Like £9 a month or something, I don't check I'm bad at budgeting haha

That's the other reason to be honest because I don't find it right to be spending £40+ and then to be charged extra monthly. But that's me. I mean if I can play up to 35 for nothing then I'll take a look. At some point

Yeah, it's always like that with MMOs because the development and server cost has to be paid for somehow. FFXIV is overtaking World of Warcraft for subscribers though now, it's like a money making machine!
