My play.com Steelbook of The Raid arrived this morning. Actually looks a lot better than the photo on the site. A little scared to open it after the luck I've had with steelbooks lately, and find it scratched!

I'm hoping my copy arrives today, I haven't seen it before and bought it as a blind buy based on recommendations here

There isn't a market for it, not one that would justify a mass market release anyway.arguing that a 1/4 have been bought by eBay scalpers, it's sold less than 2200 copies worldwide after (a) having the shit hyped out of it on horror forums, (b) having the shit hyped out of it on blu-ray.com and (c) coming on the back of the equally hyped Fright Night, which has a resale value through the roof. if it can't sell out after all that, it isn't worth a major labels time or money. If it doesn't vanish forever after the TT pressing goes OOP, it'll appear on a niche label like Synapse.

If it ever comes out from Sony/Columbia, I'll buy you a copy! Haha

If there's really no market for these films, then why were they made in the first place? I'm not trying to 'kid myself' (I resent the implication that I'm somehow delusional), I truly believe that if these BDs were available on shop shelves or through online retail outlets then they would do fairly respectable business.

I can't believe the attitude of people that seem to give credence to the studios belief that there's no market for catalogue titles. We're not helping matters by allowing the studios to think this. The horror fanbase is a very large and very dedicated fanbase and horror titles consistently sell well in most cases. Has this now changed then? Do horror fans no longer want catalogue titles from the major studios on BD? Is there really only 3000 fans globally?

It is what it is. Like I said, NOTLD would never have sold out (which it will soon) if it wasn't a limited release. Fright Night didn't sell as fast and i'd probably say there are a lot more fans of that film. Not dillusional, but the fact is, TT have this for 3 years, there are only 3000, Fright Night now goes for a lot on ebay, and these may never get another release. THAT'S why they're selling so many copies. You 'd actually be surprised how many copies some films sell that have a wide release. Some only sell in the hundreds.

I'm quite happy to stick with my DVD upscaled for the time being, limited edition or not, I can't justify spending that amount of money on a BD that doesn't have a multitude of extras. If it was cheaper then I might've considered it

The Raid steelbook just turned up. No Cabin In The Woods yet, but ah well - got plenty to keep me occupied until then!
