I thought it got better as it went a long, did you not think? It was a bit of a shock to begin with though. This is probably about as good as it gets from what I've read, I'd still rather have it than not.

I just said this very thing to someone, that it's probably the best it's going to look. It's bad when you comapre it to the Studio Canal Hammer BD's though.

Out of curiosity, was it a different team that restored curse of frankenstein. I only ask because it might explain the poorer quality.

That's a very good question.

I know there was some controvosy over Devil rides out (to say the least) but re-watching the older dvd release then watching the blu-ray just hit home how much the changes improved the film, and Dracula had some issues as well (more due to teething problems with restoring the older hammer titles imo mixed with some unfortunate technical issues) but Hammer re-issued the disc and fixed those problems. That aside i've been pleased with Hammers restorations, I havent picked up CURSE yet, i've seen a friends disc and it does look ropey to say the least. It would be interesting to see if it was the same team and the materials just were beyond a proper restoration, or someone somewhere botched the job. Hopefully some aspiring film journo's can find out!

I was reading on a thread on blu ray.com, a whole lot of people bagging the transfer for this, and accusing it of being an exact same transfer as a HDTV print.

Personally, from the caps I think it looks great and I'm definantly getting it.

Hitchcock: Masterpiece Collection arrived today, but Stephen's curse has struck and there are two scratches on the outer casing – one on the inside! Needless to say, it's going back to HMV for one in pristine condition – when you spend £100 on a Blu-ray set (or DVD set), you expect the packaging to be free from scratches.

And free from bashes! One corner of my James Bond set was bashed. Didn't notice it for a couple of weeks because I kept the card slip around it. But with it being a thick sturdy box, I wasn't expecting any bashes or dings!

Just had a quick look at They Live. It's not great. It's probably the worst transfer I've seen from Scream Factory. Granted, I've only seen Halloween II & III, but it's not as good as those transfers.

Is it a significant upgrade over the dvd? Would you say it's still worth getting?
