I got a question for you guys and girls,

Should I buy a 40 inch Full HD (1080p) Sony tv for 270 pounds to watch my Arrow Blu's on or spend a bit more and buy a 4k for future proof purposes?

I think it depends really. Do you intend to go 4k in the future and buy all the films you are buying on blu again?

Personally i doubt 4k will take off any time soon.

Actually with a 40 inch would you be able to tell any difference? I don't know?

I might be wrong but seeing as blu hasn't taken over dvd yet nor is it ever predicted to do the chances of a physical 4k format seem fairly remote with only the most avid technophobes buying discs.

As for streaming 4k. The UK is going to have to up it's broadband output in a hell of a lot of places.

I intend to upgrade my tv sometime in the summer and i won't be even considering 4k.

Cool,i was thinking 4K is at this point a bit of a rip-off, so I think i will buy a decent hd tv which you can get for quite cheap now, in fact who was that recently bought a 50 inch Sony HD tv? on this thread?

Those were only my thoughts Bub.

I'd be interested in what anyone else says as well.

As Demdike mentioned, if you already have a collection of BDs and DVDs, you're probably best off buying the 40 inch screen unless you have the financial resources to upgrade to 4K and buy all your favourite films again.

My plasma screen is coming up 10 years old and, when it goes, I'll probably replace it with a 'standard' 1080 LCD screen simply because 4K is in its infancy and I don't have the money to:
a) buy a top of the range 4K screen
b) buy the necessary hardware to connect to the 4G screen (Blu-ray player etc)
c) buy my favourite films again (on the third or fourth different format) when they are available in 4K

You have to remember it isn't just the screen, but everything else that goes with it, so something to play the 4K discs, decode the sound from the discs and have an environment where the difference between 1080 and 4K will be worth the financial difference between the two.

1080p HD is enough for me to be honest. By and large the jump in quality between dvd and blu is significant, but from here on out i can't see it matters much myself. I'll upgrade when its actually necessary this time around. I'm not even close to upgrading my dvd collection to hd yet!
keirarts and profondo rosso like this.
