German blu-ray of Amityville 3D turned up from Amazon. I bought this as it also has an anaglyph 3D version on the disc. Weirdly the disc's 2D presentation has a lossless mono English option whereas the anaglyph one actually has a lossless 5.1 English track. Quite strange.

Had a sneak peek and felt a bit underwhelmed with the effectiveness of the anaglyph effects, hopefully when we properly watch it, it will impress more. It seemed that there was some depth to the image but popout moments weren't working quite as they should (I think I've been spoiled by the washing line pole and tv ariel in F13th 3D).

Despite being a German release, this disc has a Kim Newman commentary track which is always a bonus. btw Never seen this film before, curious what I'll make of it. Obviously not expecting a masterpiece.

You're right on both counts. After posting my thoughts on Shadow of the Vampire, I saw that I had it on DVD, so looked for which Blu-ray release was best and was slightly shocked that there wasn't one in the UK.

It's a film with a relatively high profile cast and links to one of the most iconic expressionist films which is also a giant in the horror genre. As such, I'm also surprised a company like Arrow or 101 Films hasn't decided to acquire the rights for a high-definition release with a remastered picture, HD sound, and new extra features.

Indeed. Second Sight I was thinking. Though I dread to think what the artwork would be like.

Or the price.

If 101 got it they'd screw it up somehow and Arrow would release in the US only.

...And then issue a recall notice a few weeks later due to a 'QC error'!

I was also thinking of Second Sight as the other 'boutique' label with Arrow, so I'm not sure why I put 101 Films instead.

Shadow of the Vampire isn't the type of film 101 Films would normally release - it's more like the ones Second Sight would.

Three quid today in Cash Generators or Converters or whatever it was called. Also ordered a used copy of Chapter 2 for the same price from Amazon. 20240418_200408.jpg

Came today from Amazon. Quite pleased it's still shrinkwrapped given it was billed as "Used - Very Good"20240419_212505.jpg
