If I recall correctly the release of True Romance was delayed for a while in the UK by Warners over concerns with the violence in the film. Thats when I picked up the movie on laserdisc.Crazy times.

The BBFC at the time (under Ferman) didn't like the ending of TR, they took exception to a woman committing acts of violence and disliked the idea of Clarence and Alabama living happily ever after. If I recall correctly.

Ferman had this thing about bad guys getting their comeuppance and didn't like films where people seemingly got away with their criminal actions. At least that's what he's said in interviews.

It's odd, because Ferman actually joined the BBFC because, and I quote, 'I never wanted to see a censored film ever again'. Ferman was a one-time director and objected to censorship, so what does he do? Become the most draconian censor of all. I never liked the man and always found him a hypocrite. He'd have champagne lunches with Spielberg and *lo and behold!* films like Jurassic Park (which should rightfully have been a 12 rated film, in line with other classification decisions of the time) receive a PG certificate.

He censored horror into oblivion yet wanted hardcore pornography legalised. The guy was operating under a fundamentally flawed logic IMO. I think pornography is far, far more damaging to the psyche than some fake gore. In my opinion, anyway.

Little bit off topic here but has anyone ever seen Kevin Pollack doing his impression of Christopher Walken? The guy is amazing and I laugh everytime I see it.His impression of CW starts at around the 3 min mark

This week, on Blu-ray, I've watched The Matrix Reloaded which was stunning. The clarity of the image was breathtaking - absolutely incredible. Then last night I watched the US disc of The Shining which looked and sounded phenomenal - it's the first time I've seen it in widescreen too (most previous home video incarnations were open matte transfers - which was Kubrick's intention, he shot for wide but also for 4:3 so that the image wouldn't be compromised when braodcast on TV or released on VHS). I must say, I do prefer the longer version, it builds up better and fleshes out the story and characters that little bit more. And, I must say, this works much, much better with a widescreen composition. The Blu-ray is a stunner though, rest assured.

The Blu-ray of Creepshow arrived this morning, so I'll probably give that a spin later. I'm glad this hit Blu-ray early on, as it's one of my all-time favourite films. Can't wait to see it in glorious hi-def!
