Just nabbed an Italian R2 dvd of Pupi Avati's House with Laughing Windows. While I'm no audio/visual nerd, the colours on this version are drastically different to the UK dvd (much heavier with the sepia tones, and less murky looking), and apparently much closer to the directors vision. It has a sweet slipcase sleeve too, which is nice . . .

There is no official word on why that has happened but I got a feeling its a rights issue as in the US Anchor Bay released it so they may own the extras for the release and EIV (who are not exactly known to be good company for releases) could not get the rights/did not wanna spend the amount AB was asking.

As long as 2 different companies release a disc in different territories this will happen.

Great selection, bizarre_eye. I haven't yet watched my copy of Blow Out but, from briefly flicking through the disc, the quality looks to be superb. Also, I've had if.... preordered since the end of July and really look forward to seeing it in the correct frame rate and in high definition. It's one of the greatest British films ever made and my favourite Lindsay Anderson film.

Shame that Criterion lock their releases, otherwise I'd be snapping them up. Hopefully these films will eventually find their way onto UK BD's.

Finally gave in and ordered the Shogun Assassin steelbook before it disappeared. Damn rioters. Noticed quite a few Arrow releases I was eyeing up are now showing as "Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 months" on amazon.

In Play's 2 for £13 deal. I had some Play Funds from a previous sale so only spent a fiver.

Anyone know why the cover for Friday 13th isn't the same as the other reissues which have a white background with a bloody weapon on the front? I like the uniformity of those.

GENGHIS KHAN (1965)(Sony German r2) Not a great historical romp with some miscasting including James Mason as a chinese 'diplomat'.Any UK release would lose the horsefalls for sure that were cut for video.Widescreen too unlike the Spanish release & it's a proper pressed disc unlike the r1 Sony MOD version.
