I think dvd is the populist choice, it's decent quality and cheaper, watchable and will do the job. Blu and 4k are costlier and in the current climate are elitist, they are the option you choose if you;be got a few extra quid. As not as many people have got disposable income these days i can actually see dvd outlasting the newer formats. I'd expect those 4K UHD discs to become unplayable before anything else.

‘Evil Dead II’ Rises From the Grave With Groovy New VHS Release / Collider "There’s nothing better than horror films on physical media. While 4K and Blu-ray are the dominant format of choice these days, VHS has been making a bit of a comeback lately. Particularly in the horror genre. Now one of the most treasured horror sequels, Evil Dead II, is coming to VHS thanks to Vice Press. Reported by Bloody Disgusting, the release is a part of the company’s new line Vice Press Home Video. The art focused company has released a ton of limited edition movie poster prints in the last few years by their team of talented artists. Evil Dead II will be their first VHS release in the new line in collaboration with Vice Press’ Matt Ferguson, James Henshaw, and artist Florey. The line will also be sold under the UK physical media distributor StudioCanal." "Available in two editions; the Collector’s Edition comes in a clear clamshell with double sided cover, featuring art by Matt Ferguson and Florey on one side, and James Bousema on the reverse. The Collector’s Edition also comes with a set of 6 postcards featuring Evil Dead II movie posters, including Ferg x Florey and James Bousema’s releases for Vice Press, presented in a Collector’s Edition sleeve... ...[while] The Blood Splatter Variant comes in a cardboard slip case cover featuring art by Matt Ferguson and Florey with screen printed “Blood Splatter” black VHS tape."

The Premature Death of Physical Media and the Cult Home Video Labels Keeping It Alive Quote:
I know most casual buyers only have dvd players, but the fact that most people are happy with an almost 25 year old format that (imo) looks like shit compared to blu-ray, still boggles my mind.

So i'd guess they are happy with that and not having to pay half as much for a Blu-ray of the same film. if you have a 65" screen or projector then i'd be scared to think how they'll look. |

A fair point. I thought the US dvd of The Burning looked amazing. I should give it a spin again to see how it looks to me now.

What size screen do you watch on, Stephen, if you don't mind me asking?

60 inch. I'd love bigger (that's what she said!) but the layout of my living room and where I can put my tv means that's about the biggest I can use.

I still have so much tv on dvd that'll never get upgraded which would look awful on large screens that i stuck at just under 50" myself. Plus i'm not sat very far from the screen either. Under ten feet from that lovely Quantum Dot technology. |
