Default LEGEND Brian Helgeland 2015/The Krays Thread

Finally caught LEGEND at the cinema tonight now that Kray fever has died down a bit.
What an extraordinary performance by Tom Hardy in both roles as Reggie and Ronnie Kray, especially Ronnie.
Surely Hardy is up for an award of some sort for this?

EASILY K.O.'s Peter Medak's Kemp Starring film from the '90's,which although enjoyable, was more interested in Violet Kray.

Anyone seen it?

What did you think of it?

Anyone read the books on the Krays?

Discuss all things Reg and Ron here!

Ummm....find Tom Hardy's ubiquity tiresome and the reverence of a couple of violent criminals annoying - that said I'll see the film and probably thoroughly enjoy it. The Kemp film is underrated imo and gets knee jerk criticism simply because it stars Spandau Ballet. One of the Kemps is great in Killing Zoe.

I was fairly ambivalent about Legend – it's brilliant in some parts, but the overall film left me underwhelmed. That said, two of the people I went with thought it was superb, and I've heard the same from someone else.

I've never been a fan of The Krays, as the gangster twins are supposed to be terrifying (as Tom Hardy portrays them, they are in Legend).. With the best will in the world, the guys from Spandau Ballet just aren't scary.

Tom Hardy was incredible in Legend. Particularly his Ronnie.

When they were filming The Krays the production came to Reading to film the fun fair sequence and my friend Emma got a walk-by part as an extra, she said both the Kemp brothers were very polite and respectful to her and everybody involved and made a great impression, so I've always liked the film because of their impeccable, humble behavior (makes a film much easier to like) but I have a feeling Tom Hardy in Legend will eclipse them.

I'll have to rewatch the Kemp version. I've always had a soft spot for it.
