Which war was this set in? The Cold War doesn't count.

It doesn't? I have Dr. Strangelove, which is also set during the Cold War, in my 'conventional' war films list.

Leave it though as it could have been war on a catastrophic scale, luckily it wasn't. It's about the only one from that time that kind of counts. |

Flippancy aside though, unless it's someone I really loathe, cast rarely sways me in terms of what I watch, whether the film in question is from the classic era or the more modern one. |

I was just thinking of films during wartime without any war, and I think Thirteen Days is a great movie, which I find compelling even though the outcome is known at the outset.

That's a film out of war time without any war. |

Thinking about it I'm pretty sure Saving Private Ryan was the first proper war film i ever watched. And even that after it had been out about two or three years.

It fascinates me how many people have 'closed' or narrow areas of viewing. I need films of all types in my collection. 3000 horror, sci-fi and Eureka's (Minus the war and westerns of course ) would bore me shitless. |
