Another fan of Went The Day Well?. Nice one D!

It was almost remade as The Eagle Has Landed don't you think?

The 49th Parallel is also excellent.

Great choices sir.

Ta, can easily do another 10, as I suppose these are my real guilty pleasures. What's nae to like about WTDW? Thora Hird shooting nazis what what. Yes, and in TEHL you get to see JR shot haha. Ahem.

I'd seriously like to see another list. Your first picks have some great films in them. Clearly i'm just trying to find some films i don't know of, but that's okay.

I'll be picking up It Happened Here thanks to you, it sounds fascinating.

IHH is a personal favourite, the budget pokes through in places but still....

Bullet In The Head
The Spy In Black
Stalag 13
Von Ryan's Express
Hannibal Brooks
Das Boot
Joyeux Noel
(the xmas footie truce film, some bonny scenes in this)
The Tin Drum (COUGH)
Battle Of Britain
And to round off, something more light hearted......
Adolf Hitler: My Part In his Downfall

One change to my top 10 films set during wartime, but not necessarily war films, with Whisky Galore! replacing Thirteen Days:
  • Casablanca
  • Pan's Labyrinth
  • The Grand Illusion
  • Grave of the Fireflies
  • The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
  • The Devil's Backbone
  • The Wind Rises
  • A Field in England
  • Witchfinder General
  • Whisky Galore!

I didn't know there was a remake of Whisky Galore! already made and to be released later this year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whisky_Galore!_(2016_film)

Would The Wild Geese be considered a war film?

I had it in my alternative war film list.

They are mercenaries in a war, sort of. I keep it with my war films so i consider it one.
