As to Eli Roth, i find his films entertaining up to a point. I don't think anything i've seen by him has been great or broke any new ground but they were enjoyable in their own way.
I haven't seen Knock Knock yet but i enjoyed the original film that he apparently ripped off/remade.
The Seducers/Death game with Sandra Locke.( Clint Eastwoods old bird).

As you say, I don't think any of those fit the general idea of what Paul Kersey should be.
Serious dramatic actor from The Fifth Element?? You having a laugh?

I do not like The Fifth Element.

Can I count Kids as a 'foreign' language horror btw ?

A southerner might say that about I, Daniel Blake – doesn't make it a horror movie!
