My thanks to those who contributed their lists of their favourite/greatest directorial debuts over the past week. I thought of going in a different direction this week because of the released trailers for a couple of Marvel films (Ant-Man and the Wasp, Avengers: Infinity War), plus the upcoming Black Panther film and, from DC, Aquaman due for release this summer.

Aside from the traditional comic book adaptations, there have been many fine films based on graphic novels, fully developed stories in their own right, not tied to long-standing characters and story arcs. As such, I thought be good if you could rack your brains and come up with a list (or lists) on this topic:

FILMS BASED ON COMIC BOOKS OR GRAPHIC NOVELS

Aren't you a fan of any comic book adaptations such as the Christopher Nolan Dark Night films, the X-Men movies, The Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec, Superman, Tim Burton's Batman films, either of the Guardians of the Galaxy films or Deadpool?

Yes but they go in the list of superhero movies. Besides i don't know which films are based on comic adaptations and which just use the characters.

I don't want to constrain myself to one list, so was planning on doing two: one for comic book adaptations and the other for graphic novels, using my own knowledge of the source material and, when in doubt, Google!

I might even make three lists with superheroes as a separate category.
