Batman Returns (1992) Director Tim Burton gives us a day-glow masterpiece of fantasy horror images all dressed up as a superhero film. From the grotesque shuffling Penguin to the wet dream in black latex that is Catwoman, not forgetting the sadistic Max Schreck and of course Michael Keaton's definitive Batman portrayal. In my opinion the best Batman film to date, and it's set at Christmas. |

Doctor Who - The Runaway Bride (2006) Like so many of the Doctor Who Christmas specials the actual central plot isn't as good as the smaller more intimate parts of the story. The Runaway Bride introduces us to Donna Noble as played by Catherine Tate. At the time i thought it was a horrendous choice of actor for the role but how quickly my thoughts changed. Tate is superb. She has real screen chemistry with David Tennant, not sexual chemistry but a wonderful matey chemistry which ends up being really refreshing, especially in her full series of stories screened a couple of years later. Yes, Tate was that good they brought her back. The Runaway Bride has a couple of superb set pieces, the best being the TARDIS flying down a motorway as the Doctor attempts to save Donna from a murderous robot Santa driving a taxi cab. It's a highly memorable sequence and stands out even fourteen years later. However the central story involving an invasion attempt by the spider like Racnoss is rather forgettable despite a great performance by the wonderful yet unrecognizable Sarah Parrish as the Racnoss queen. |

I've not started until Tuesday, and I have few things lined up but not many so far, it'll be a mix of new (to me), old, horror, comedy & classics. So far I know I'll be watching Christmas Evil, Silent Night Deadly Night (1 & 2), Dial Code Santa Claus (aka Deadly Games) and Christmas Blood (aka Juleblod) and probably my annual 'A Christmas Story' viewing on Christmas Eve

My normal Christmas viewing includes It's a Wonderful Life, Die Hard, Gremlins, Black Christmas, and Don't Open till Christmas. I will probably be watching all of those and will definitely watch Rare Exports and the two Silent Night, Deadly Night films.
