Yeah Univesal are releasing THE THING here as well.

It'll have to be very special to be better than the recent Arrow Video Blu-ray release which, with the 4K scan, has stunning picture quality. It'll need a new scan at 4K or 8K, HDR and Dolby Atmos, plus some extra features to be worth buying.

Surprisingly the Blu-ray of The Take starring Idris Elba has a cracking Dolby Atmos track on it. I only have a 5:1 system but it still sounds great.

There are a surprising number of Blu-ray discs with Dolby Atmos tracks, something I've only realised quite recently. Before that, they were described as Dolby TrueHD 7.1 on the DVD Profiler database.

I have an AV receiver capable of producing Dolby Armas/DTS-X soundtracks with upfiring speakers and there are some discs with astonishingly good, all-encompassing soundscapes.

Oh right, yes. If True HD is actually Atmos then loads of Blu-rays have it. I'd not thought of it that way.

Not all Dolby TrueHD tracks are Dolby Atmos, but all Dolby Atmos tracks have Dolby TrueHD at their core. As I understand it, a Dolby Atmos track is a Dolby TrueHD one with two overhead channels.

The DVDs with impressive Dolby Atmos soundtracks that spring to mind are:

• Deepwater Horizon
• Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice
• Jupiter Ascending
• Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol
• Mission: Impossible – Fallout
• The Hunger Games: Mockingjay (Parts 1 & 2)
• The BFG
• Game of Thrones seasons 5-8.

As long as the True HD states 7:1 then they'll be Atmos otherwise i don't know what the other two channels are.

The best sound i've come across so far is definitely that Resident Evil box set. It's stunning (First film aside)

7:1 is seven surround speakers and a subwoofer, so the centre, front left and right, surround back right and left, and side right and left surround speakers.

A Dolby Atmos set up would be something like 5:1:2, the centre speaker and two front surrounds, two rear surround, a subwoofer, and two overhead speakers.
