You wait ages for a film about images imprinted on eyeballs then 2 come along at once - I'm talking of course about Four Flies on Grey Velvet and Horror Express both of which I've seen over the last 24 hours. Both have excellent blu ray transfers, both are great fun - the crucial difference is that HE has 2 of the greatest ever horror actors whereas FFOGV has, er, Michael Landon. Peter Cushing can make lines like 'is Dr Saxton's fossil still at large?' and 'Oh my God it's a brontosauraus!' sound perfectly plausable but Mr Landon struggles to register the slightest emotion never mind carry a line. I think Argento movies need to be anchored by good actors - see Karl Malden and Max Von Syndow who saved pretty rotten movies - but FFOGV lacks any gravitas and flutters into the air, a big load of flashy nothing (apart from the last scene of course which is the best thing DA ever shot)

Saw The Woman In Black finally. Quiet audience (well, until...) so all good there. Liked! Even if Radcliffe is still too fresh faced i feel. some nice wee scares, and a nice atmosphere will ensure i'l watch this again. Was nice being in cinema again (after WNTTAK) watching something i didnt feel was insulting my intelligence. Did hope for a more "trad" Hammer ending, but can't have everything

Having a zombathon today, watched The Dead on BD this morning, great film which makes good use of the stunning filming locations and is very much like the Resident Evil 5 and Far Cry 2 games. Followed it with probably my 10th viewing since October of BU's excellent BD of Zombie Flesheaters(I refuse to call it Zombie like the Americans do), gonna finish off with some good old fashioned zombie bashing on Left 4 Dead 2

EDEN LAKE is one of the best Brit films in years

I was expecting something decent when I finally got around to seeing it for the first time last night but what I got was something even better than that - it was truly great. That's two recent brilliant Brit horrors that I've seen in the past month. The other being 'Kill List'.
