He's one of my favourites ever since arrested development and superbad, yes he only has one style but he's good at it.

This evening I gave Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning (German blu-ray) a spin. It's very different from the previous films in the series with an almost mystical quality. For most of the film its not really clear where it is going. I liked it.

Otherwise known as "found footage"

Talking of Cronenberg, I like the look of his son's new film . . .

I love the humor Takeshi Miike puts in his films like the hair dye and cling film scene

A mixed bunch this time.....

The House At The End Of The Street (Mark Tonderai, 2012)
...And this is why I can't watch mainstream films. Featuring Elizabeth Shue and her from the Hunger Games, this risible "thriller" about moving into a neighbourhood with "a past" was the epitome of committee driven film making imo. P A S S.

Seven Psychopaths (Martin McDonagh, 2012) Now this was more like it. A scriptwriter finds that his friends "advice" has wider consequences cough cough. Great performance from Walken imo. Even the Farrell didn't piss me off as much haha. Great use of music as well (Half Man Half Biscuit!!!!). Recommended.

Just A Gigolo (David Hemmings, 1978) WOW. As a Bowie fan of long standing, this was the Holy Grail (I've seen The Image.ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ) in terms of his work. It was worth the wait. Ostensibly the story of a German officer's misadventures after the Great War, this was A ****ING HOOT. Either Bowie was "distracted" during the shooting, or Hemmings was a weak hand on the tiller, but it's not what I call "acting". We watched the longer print (101 minutes). Am now dying to see the 95 minute one, which we nearly put on straight after. Michty!!

Rounded off the night with Arrow's print of A Bay Of Blood with Tim Lucas' comm. Informative, but I do feel he has too much reverence for Bava in places........

Shame to hear that V/H/S isn't hitting the spot in certain quarters. Ok, it IS flawed, but easily more satisfying than the cookie cutter dross like the first film on this post that Hollywood churns out.
For a shite found footage film, check out the dire and laughable Episode 50
