That's what it said in my e-mail notification! John Ford is a great choice, but I'd probably go with Alfred Hitchcock or Orson Welles.

kurosawa wishes he could direct something this great!!!

Also watched LITTLE ODESSA. A crime/family drama with Tim roth who comes back to kill a few men and decides to reconnect with his estranged family, especially his younger brother played by edward furlong. It's a very russian film with a very russian outlook on life (if you have ever read any dostoyevsky you will get it) and a great little movie if somewhat grim.

So executive koala was a great antidote!

Argento. Really?

He may have had a rosy spell in the seventies to mid eighties, but he hasn't made a really good film in nigh on thirty years.

It's the quality of those films in that all to brief spell that truely raises his states for me.

I think he's made some great films but he's not really a great director.

Evil Dead (2013) - Not even worth a small review. I didn't hate it but I think the worst feeling when leaving a cinema is indifference, for me at least. I ask myself and anyone who will listen to me, why must all modern horror films cast pretty, model-like actors who are so distant that you can't relate to any of them? Some nice, gory moments though.

A director is the sum of his work, and Argento's great far out way his lackluster entries.

For me it's either Kubrick or David Fincher.

They have maybe one dud and one or two average films each, but the rest is absolutely superb!

That counts against him, as does the fact his best films aren't as good as the best films made by directors like Scorsese, Hitchcock, Ozu, Kubrick, Truffaut, Godard, Ford, Hawks etc.
