The last film I watched was Stanley Kubrick's (SP?) The Killers. This heist film had me gripped from start to finish. Great story, great characters, great acting and great ending. My only compliant was the narration running through it, otherwise a 9/10!!!

The Killer Shrews (1959) Having watched this many times during countless re-runs on tv,I was surprised how much I still enjoyed this one. Now just look at that poster, isn't that great art? Reminds me of 50's pulp comics and pocket books! It's no surprise that The Killer Shrews is actually as hard-boiled as the poster suggests. Made on a low budget but with all the ingredients for men to feel manly. And the same production company brings you... The Giant Gila Monster (1959) Hot rodders vs a giant monster! Can it be as good as it sounds? I guess it can as this is primo 50's teenage entertainment with teen problems, romance, songs, hot rods and of course monsters thrown in the mix. Btw both films have very decent special effects considering the time and their low budgets. My favourite is without a doubt The Killer Shrews as I'm no longer a teenager and like the hard-boiled style of this little b-movie classic.

I have both films in one of those 50 movie packs and they are both hilarious – the shrews are clearly dogs with rugs over them and the giant gila monster looks more like a pet lizard in Toytown! I guess this is why they are so much fun to watch.

I bought the cheap ($3 I think) Legends Films double which had overall good looking prints (The Shrews look great here). Seems they had to insert a short scene from a lesser source though. It's the one to get according to what I've read. Of course I watched the original b/w versions (disc 2). The Killer Shrews/The Giant Gila Monster review @ DVD Drive-In Btw about the framing,it's always possible to re-frame on your tv (I did this btw).

Planes, trains and automobiles Classic comedy with both Martin and candy on top form but its candys wonderful performance as the annoying but loveable del Griffith that makes this Film. Only one more thing to say THOSE AREN'T PILLOWS.10/10 Trancers 4 and 5 Not as good as the first 3 but still a lot of, fun thanks to tim thomerson. Linked the two movies together as it is basically the one movie. 6.5/10 Justice league flashpoint paradox Not read the comics so can't compare, but enjoyed this great animation and acting, enjoyed the story. Also very dark and gritty in places so not recommended for younger children. 8/10 Zombie flesheaters 3(zombi 4 afterlife) enjoyed this immensely, definitely one of those films, that's so bad it's good. Terrible performances with some good gore and some unusual zombies that seem part ninja and retain some intelligence and abilitie to use weapons 8/10 |
