Mission to Lars;

A brilliant and sometimes moving documentary. Came away from this feeling really good inside. Lars was great and also nice to see Kerry King in a brief shot

Dunno whether Leo D. Dog has been bringin' fleas in but I've 'ad an Ichi time lately!

"Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo" (1970)

"Zatoichi Meets the One-Armed Swordsman" (1971)

"Zatoichi in Desperation" (1972)

Three of the later episodes of the EPIC Zatoichi series of films starring Shintaro Katsu as the visually impaired masseur, swordsman and Lone Robin Hood of Nipon. These are eminently watchable films, with little to choose between them, by three very capable directors including Shintaro Katsu himself.

Despite the superhuman ability to fight off waves of enemies without being able to see them, Ichi is a very human character with sensitivities and a humour that many of his enemies seem to lack.

I really enjoyed watching Ichi's adventures and will certainly look for more. I've seen a gorgeous looking box set of all 26 films but it is beyond my price range so it's back to trawling charity shops and CEX etc. for me!

"...Meets Yojimbo"
16/10, "... Meets the One-Armed Swordsman" 15/10, "...In Desperation" 19/20.

Yeah I know what you mean, but when I gave it another chance it fared better.

Is it okay to post non horror films here? Horror is my favourite genre, but lately I am into Japanese cinema from the 40's and 50's. Anyway I watched:
Sansho The Bailiff by Mizoguchi (1954)
An epic. A rather simple and still recognisable story about a family that is torn apart by slave traders. Mizoguchi's cinematography is astounding, long shots that really pulls you into the story. It has some really heartbreaking moments but without the melodramatic stuff that ruins most other (modern) films for me. You know, the violins and staring at the horizon.

The more variety the better.

Amer. What is this SHIT? An enjoyable opening, first 25 minutes I was getting very excited, then it.....................just went flat imo. May rewatch at weekend but so far Berberian SS a far superior experience.
I quite enjoyed AMER. But then again, I liked it more when I saw it the second time. It's a film that makes no sense, but that's okay.
Berberian SS is better, I agree.

If it's not I'm screwed too.

From 1943:

Tarzan Triumphs - "Now Tarzan make war!"
Sherlock Holmes in Washington - Hmmm!
Sherlock Holmes Faces Death - More Hmmm!
Titanic - Films ok but its one of those that has a backstory into how it was made that more interesting.

Last American Virgin for the first time. Loved it.. but that ending, I almost want to say I don't understand it.
