I watched Hanger on Saturday, pretty good but I preferred Gutterballs. I found that it went in too hard trying to shock and forgot about the story and the revenge angle a bit. Too much pissing about and trying to be funny and not enough of the gruesome!

Lloyd Kaufmann's cameo is hilariously pointless though!

The Atlantis Interceptors
A fascinating experience. Only the most enthusiastic apologist could claim this film was not a badly made, illogical, nonsensical mess, but somehow...all that didn't matter! As one often encounters in low budget efforts the sheer verve (one might even say "gall"!) of the film-makers carries it along. This ridiculous film is tremendous entertainment and there are some witty moments in the dialogue. A real curio. Many thanks to Splatterdragon73 for the VHS - I have put it onto a DVD for ease of repeat viewing! Shame about the 18 cert being cut. The cuts are very clumsily done and really jar when they happen.

Lady Snowblood
I loved this film. It looked beautiful, told a primal tale succinctly and masterfully and had some fine performances. Loved the claret spraying fight scenes! Had a lovely stagey, theatrical quality to it. Excellent.

Tenebrae
Hadn't seen this for years, but I have seen it lots. I think I loved it even more than I remembered loving it! The fully uncut Swedish DVD is pretty good, if not razor-sharp image-wise. Great film.

The Hills Have Eyes II
Although Alexandre Aja's remake of "The Hills Have Eyes" is one of the few remakes I like, I wasn't sure about watching this sequel. It seemed as if it would be a fomulaic mash of cliché...and it was...but somehow it worked. Not a great film, but watchable enough and I found myself fair enjoying it.

La Residencia
First off, the quality of the Elvira disk of this is awful - terrible fuzzy picture and hissy sound with clicks and dropouts, much like a second generation VHS dub. But it is in full 'scope letterbox, which is something. The dubbing is amongst some of the worst I have ever seen on a film.
The film itself is a pretty damned good affair, though I fear it did not strike me as the masterpiece some claim. It is superbly shot and extremely atmospheric, but the pacing is rather ragged and at times it's stately elegance just becomes slow dreariness. It is, nonetheless, a success overall - a good murder mystery in a fine setting with the Gothic tones cranked way up high and excellent set-pieces. It's no Bava, nor is it as accomplished as Serrador's later film "Who Would Kill A Child?" but it is a fine film worth seeing.
The Elvira print is clearly cut in a few places.

You'll need to watch Election 2 to get the full story.

Watched Orphan. This takes a while to get going but works quite well as a suspense thriller once it starts. The twist is quite good too. Not one I'd watch again but a nice enough time filler.

Any more "Dexter" fans around here?

I'm almost finished watching the first season and am totally loving this show!

Brilliant writing, great acting, a plot which gets you hooked...If you haven't seen this yet, give it a go!
