I watched Cannibal Holocaust yesterday (which i finally got on a nice French DVD). Great Riz score, great cheesy style, but I still have to fast forward during the completely pointless animal scenes. I also skipped some of the native scenes. Not my cup-o-tea, but essential all the same. I'm thinking about dipping into Ferox, but not sure if it's a good idea! |

Only the finale of season 1 of "Dexter" to go now....I really wish season 2 will find its way under my christmas tree @Deadalive: How are the books? I was thinking of getting those too to "shortcut" time until the release of season 3 over here far up north. |

The books take a different path to the TV series, which is something you just have to get your head around, but they are well written and get you inside the character's head. The third book was the weakest for me so far, but they are entertaining reads and something you can enjoy alongside the series once you get the plot development differences. Highly recommended.

The Keep Nazis including a chilling Gabriel Byrne, Ian McKellen, Tangerine Dream, and a red-eyed monster. I'd quite forgotten just how daftly enjoyable this film is. |

Seven Deaths In The Cats Eyes A sharp and tongue in cheek blend of Gothic and Giallo. A superb looking film, extremely atmospheric. One of Margheriti's finest, in my opinion. Quite, quite wonderful. Jane Birkin is a little out of her depth acting wise, but she looks perfect in her rôle, and who could fail to be moved by her scampering about in diaphanous nightwear! I really did adore this film. It was all I could do not to go straight back to the start and watch it all again. |

Thanks for the feedback, Deadalive! As I'm totally hooked on "Dexter" right now I'll give the books a go. Can't remember the last time a US TV series met my tastes so perfectly. |

Indeed! Great fun, great gore and WHAT a ****ing body count!! "Manhunt" (Rovdyr) http://www.beardyfreak.com/rvmanhunt.php A blatant homage in style and content to 70's Grindhouse cinema in general and to Hooper's "TCM" in particular, this Norwegian slice of visceral backwoods horror does the homage well (and it's done with an obvious fan's eye), but ultimately fails as its own film. This is due to the repetitive nature of the whole enterprise, the silly plot points (where you have never seen such a lucky unlucky person in the shape of our female lead as far as finding handy weapons goes) and a badly handled ending. Some good acting by the lead actress, and some of the FX and deaths are good (some crappy CGI blood...again...aside) and the film's gritty style and often nasty content gives us something to enjoy... But in the end its a barely average also-ran. |
