Bloodmoon (1990)

A serial killer is at large in a catholic school, stalking and murdering the students.

A (very) late entry to the eighties slasher genre. This Australian effort seems to be ticking all the boxes that make so many slashers formulaic. Sex, attractive victims, often dumb motives for doing things. You know the score.

Then we start getting some decent character development. With the killer unmasked around the half way point we get to see a little of his reasoning and his submissive home behaviour due to his cruel dominating wife. Fortunately the film is quite well acted preventing the characters going to waste and you genuinely root for them, hoping they might live, which is a change for slasher films, especially the later ones such as this.

The killers method of murder - a barbed wire noose with which he strangles his victims, is original, again making the movie slightly memorable, however the direction falls a little flat and not mush suspense is generated either during or in the build up to the murders.

I didn't dislike Bloodmoon,, the final two thirds were reasonably entertaining, but it probably is recommended for completists only.

Lair of the White worm

First time seeing this and I really enjoyed it, in some ways it reminded me of a 70s or 80s doctor who( even if capaldi wasn't in it)just with added sex. Don't know how close it is to the book but is partially based on the lambton worm legend which is near where I grew up. The real highlight had to be Amanda Donohoes OTT performance 7.5/10

Really enjoyed this japanese animated space opera, which looks beatuful and has a intresting story and charcters which had me gripped from begining to end. Well worth seeking out for anime and sci fans. 9.5/10

Two couples go on vacation on a remote Island for some relaxation and a spot of fishing. One of the woman Kay is more than reluctant to go to the island after she has some disturbing nightmares before they set off. As soon as they land a strange feeling of deja vu comes over her making her feel like she has been to this place before. Apart from the house they are staying at the only other building seems to be the old cinema which having never seen it before was the exact same cinema Kay painted after one of her nightmares. Kay continues to be plagued by nightmare of death and gruesome murders and soon her nightmares become reality when the monster in her dreams what Kay calls "The Slayer" starts to kill.

When Kay sleeps people DIE.

The Slayer is a great film i loved it from start to finish. There is plenty of atmosphere and the remote setting gives a feeling of being alone , helpless and being trapped with no where to run. There are some great kills on show here and some are very creative the fishing hooks was my favourite. The acting is strong and there is some great music. While watching it one line hit me and started me thinking. The line "just stay awake" straight away made me think of A Nightmare On Elm Street did this film inspire Wes Craven ?

Highly Recommended. I hope this gets a Blu Ray release sometime.

The Dark half.

This one got some rough treatment on release, partly due to the total collapse of Orion films and the fact that for certain sequences Romero's vision outshone technology of the time and the final sequence looks something of a mess.
It's a faithful adaptation of the king book, where Author Tad Beaumont's nom de plume George stark comes to life and begins terrorising the people around him when Tad decides to kill him off rather than give in to a blackmailers demands.

Romero's film is actually fairly lean and faithful to the source novel and deals well telling a story that deals with the authors struggle between art and commerce, and the need for an outlet for the darker side of human nature. Timothy Hutton is extraordinary as Tad Beaumont and George stark and is a dual role that deserved far more attention than it got. Equally Michael Rooker is excellent as Alan Pangborn, playing an uncharacteristic but superbly delivered performance as the sheriff (a recurring character in King's books) after this Romero disappeared into Hollywood limbo for a good number of years. It's a damn shame because I rate this as one of his better non zombie movies and is certainly one of the better big screen King adaptations

The Power.

directed by Jeffrey Obrow and stephen Carpenter the power is a classic VHS era potboiler with plenty of gore and some inventive deaths. It perhaps nicks lots from other films but is highly entertaining.

The ABC's of Death.
Simple idea, give 26 directors a letter, they choose a word beginning with said letter and make a short film on the word. a lot of the films were okay, some were good and a few were terrible. My lasting impression was that as a whole the films were mainly obsessed with sex, toileting and eating but mainly things going in or coming out of the female anus or vagina...

my picks from the 26 would be
H is for Hydro-Electric Diffusion (directed and written by Thomas Malling)
R is for Removed (directed and written by Srdjan Spasojevic)

My favorite -

X is for XXL (directed and written by Xavier Gens)

My final verdict would be to say it was rather Dull, nothing you haven't seen before and have better versions sitting on your dvd shelf. Re-Visit an oldie before putting your effort on this.
