Why Highly Intelligent People Are Messy, Stay Up Late, and Love Swearing
Despite the societal stereotype of those who curse being ignorant, a recent study has found that swearing is a sign of intelligence. Furthermore, those who are messier and like to stay up late are more likely to have a higher IQ.

For ages, people have maintained that only those with a limited vocabulary are likely to use swear words. However, psychologists Kristin Jay of Marist College and Timothy Jay of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts have found this to be incorrect. According to their study, those who were more fluent in ‘taboo words’ were more likely to be fluent in mundane, neutral words, meaning that they actually had a wider vocabulary.

“A voluminous taboo lexicon may better be considered an indicator of healthy verbal abilities rather than a cover for their deficiencies,” the researchers wrote. “People who use taboo words understand their general expressive content as well as nuanced distinctions that must be drawn to use slurs appropriately. The ability to make nuanced distinctions indicates the presence of more rather than less linguistic knowledge, as implied by the POV [Poverty of Vocabulary] view.”

In another study, researchers discovered that individuals who were more nocturnal than others were also more likely to be intelligent. During the study, researchers discovered that people who had a childhood IQ of less than 75 would go to be around 23:42 on weeknights in early adulthood. On the other hand, those who had a childhood IQ over 125 would go to bed around 00:29.

And to take the cake, a study conducted at the University of Minnesota found that the messy desks of geniuses are actually linked to intelligence. “Disorderly environments seem to inspire breaking free of tradition, which can produce fresh insights. Orderly environments, in contrast, encourage convention and playing it safe.”

Staying up late, swearing and messiness have been linked in our society to laziness and stupidity. Thankfully, now, science is proving that all three assumptions are wrong. So, if you enjoy your curse words, being a night owl, or having a messy environment, have no fears, as you are more than likely a genius. If not, you could be pretty damn close.
And if you are a potty mouth, check this video out which links swearing to honesty

T2: Trainspotting
Set 20 years in the aftermath of the 1st film, it sees Renton return to Edinburgh and meeting up again with Spud and Sickboy, both of whom are pissed of about him leaving with the 16k. however neither are as pissed as Begbie who has just escaped prison after being chibbed with a needle.
Is this as good as the original? no. however in spite of this it is still a damn good film with great performances from everyone, especially Robert Carlyle as Begbie, who is just as (if not more) menacing as before. Great Soundtrack also (including a damn fine remix of lust for life by The Prodigy).
8/10

Wake

A group of people are invited to the wake of a kid they killed when they ran him over. Not questioning how weird this is, they turn up and end up getting knocked out. Waking up they find they are trapped in a house and being hunted by a guy in a mask. It turns out they might be part of some dark satanic ritual.
Not the greates film ever, it has some pacing issues and the central premise strains credulity, however overall its worth a go if you find it on netflix.

Standoff.

Lawrence Fishburne plays a ruthless hitman who kills a bunch of people at a funeral. Unfortunately he's photographed with his mask off by a local girl who flees to the nearest house. The homwowner carter (thomas jane) hides the girl upstairs and grabs his shotgun and a standoff ensues.
This one comes highly recommended. It's a taut well acted thriller that makes the most of minimal locations, relying on a great script, some great acting and some brutal violence as Fishburnes cold, calculating killer engages in mind games with Jane's flustered everyman over the fate of the girl. Can be found in poundland and well worth a punt.

I don't think it is the joke that is the problem but the massive post cluttering up the thread, long after the original posts were made.

Jokes are all about the timing after all....

If it is anything like the others in this new series, it will be brilliant, particularly at the cinema with a big screen to showcase the battle scenes. I plan to see it next week.

most of the reviews are praising it , saying its the best one yet and andy serkis is amazing but sadly with being a motion captured performance he won't get the recognition that it deserves

atmospheric and well acted haunted house story, with a great cast and eerie score. Based on the book Hell House by Richard Matheson who also did the screenplay, we have some difference with it being set in England , while it was Maine in the book and a lot of the sex had been removed from the movie. 8/10

John Wick Chapter 2.

Wildly over the top mayhem that expands the world of the first film to good effect. Keanu Reeves is fantastic in the main role, a brooding presence with barely contained violence under the skin. Whilst not the greatest actor around, he has a certain physical heaviness in this role. You do not doubt he is able to kill 10s of people at once while taking a beating at the same time. Recommended.
