Tony Curtis, George Kennedy, Murray Hamilton & Henry Fonda renact recent events. Can't have played well in Massachussetts surely? Quasi documentary in style with some tell tale flourishes at the end to disguise the fact that Mr Roberts browbeats an obviously mentally ill man into a lurid confession. How times change .... I digress. The print on the UK Fox dvd wasn't as clear as a viewing on Channel 4 or I need to clean the tv again ....

Go on reread my 2nd last review .... go on go on ... Skeleton Coast (1988, John 'Bud'Cardos) I heartily endorse Cardos. Everything I've seen him produce is entertainment central. Still thinking about that One Man Force tbh. Man, highest grade lowbrow. Richard Lynch turned up to seethe quickly. RECOMMENDED.

Death Line. Donald Pleasance is an eccentric London copper who investigates the disappearance of an OBE from a Tube line and uncovers a darkly horrific secret from the 19th century in this grisly early 70s British horror flick based on a real-life urban legend. Pleasance is hilarious as the rascally old-school copper, which is just as well as this cult classic is as disturbing as all hell at times! |

My wife and I watched Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. Have certainly never thought that it was an all-time classic but I do have a fair bit of respect for it. Jack Nicholson gives a wonderfully OTT and manic performance, and the film does have some great steadicam work. If memory serves me correctly, Stephen King was quite critical of the film - the reason being that it was clear from the start that the Nicholson character was unbalanced. He may well have been making a valid point. (Could be wrong but it seemed like King stopped critiquing his film adaptions after he tried and failed with Maximum Overdrive). But the film is still pretty cool imo. Final film score - 8/10. David Cronenberg's The Dead Zone is due to arrive tomorrow so this week should be a Stephen King double bill. btw My wife and I really disagreed on one thing. I think that Shelley 'Olive Oyl' Duvall is pretty darn ugly whereas she does not think so! Further btw Apologies to any Maximum Overdrive fans.

Finishing with The Peacekeeper (1997, Frederic Forrestier) High stakes when Dolph is your only safety guard against armagedeon. Gets off to a cracking start anyhow .... Michael Sarrazin stars as the embittered loony. Quite fun in a second tier way. I won't hold my breath for the 20th anniversary BD The Lund teams up with Montel Williams . It's that kind of film.....
