Watching Who Goes There, arrow's Thing doc, and it's very good! Did not know that it went through Tobe Hooper before Carpenter did it! For all my "nothing left to say" talk, I've been proven wrong!
Lots of good stuff in there and the print is unreal, it looks better than the latest studio blockbuster, the only thing that gives away it's age is the fashion and technology!

Started re watching "terror takes shape" doc, forgot it's 84 mins long! Classic documentary from the laserdisc days, will be watching "Thing" extras for the restof the week! Two commentaries & loads of docs, etc to go through.
Easily worth the asking price!

Reality

Fairly hard to give a coherent description of this one. It's from quentin dupieux, the director of Rubber, Wrong and Wrong cops. If you liked those the short review would be go check this out.
For those who haven't, well his films are pretty much the most abstract, absurd comedies you might care to imagine. Here he takes the basic premise of the film within a film structure and removes all the traditional boundaries between the layers. Supposedly fictional characters appear in scenes with 'real' characters and events within films affect things in the main narrative. Alain Chabat plays Jason Tantra, a cameraman has a pitch for a film about killer TV's that's accepted with one condition, he must find the perfect groan for the films death scenes. Easier said than done. Meanwhile John Heder plays Dennis, a man who hosts a cooking show Jason also works on. He dresses as a rat and is convinced he has a skin rash when he doesn't. John Glover plays Zog, a director working on a film about a girl called reality who discovers a videotape inside a pig that might relate to Jason's story. Jason has briefly met Zog BTW. We also get Eric Wareheim as Reality's Headteacher who has nightmares about dressing up as a woman and randomly abusing old men. Its only a nightmare because he never usually dreams about old people. He's also in therapy with Jasons wife. From there it just keeps getting weirder.
For me this is probably Dupieux best film. As mad as it is it actually works better as a complete film than his previous films. I liked them a lot but they often felt like a collection of skits loosely tied together. Recommended with caution.

As a big Dupieux fan, I really enjoyed this one too, and like you, probably consider it his best (although I do highly rate all of his films that I've seen).

December 4th - The Bunker (2015)

A British film starring Mischa Barton as a young woman who along with her best mate goes to her ex-boyfriends storage facility to see what's there. Once inside the two along with an assortment of other users find themselves stalked by a psychopath.

On okay horror thriller with a gruesome finale. Barton's good, but then she's always good, but some of the other actors are less than convincing including Robert Knepper, who plays a cop so badly i thought he was a fake. Although fast paced it's also formulaic but one or two deaths will catch you out, however The Bunker isn't a patch on the similar themed Storage (2009)

December 5th - Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies (2016)

It became clear during the first half hour that the title of this Austrian film was far superior to what was actually on screen.

Obviously it's a horror comedy but it's not that horrific and not in the least bit funny. The film looks great and there are some exhilarating snow board sequences early doors as well as script creativity in escaping the undead but it lacks the peril and characterization of leaders in the horror comedy genre like Shaun of the Dead, Severance and Dead Snow.

A missed opportunity although the Alpine setting and copious amounts of Schnapps on offer made it a very Christmassy film.

JEEPERS CREEPERS III

Set in between the last two films, The Creeper is still at large and picking off victims for their body parts.
Sadly, after a good opening the film has no atmosphere. It's not creepy or scary at all.
The Creeper in some scenes looks really good. These are mostly when he extends his wings out. Other than that the Creeper is lacking in effects such as the bat claws around his head.
The crows also don't make that much of an appearance.
Bizarrely, the old wagon now has devices that shoot spears out and can drop bombs out the bottom. It is also filled with booby traps for anyone who wants to get out or in!
A wasted opportunity really. Could have been so much better. The budget is not there and it looks it. Shame.

Srooge 1935

Miser Ebenezer Scrooge is visited by his late partner Jacob Marley and tells him he will be visited by three ghost to escape the fate of Marley and change his ways.

I had no idea this version existed nor a silent one that Seymour Hicks both played Ebenzer Scrooge.

This one is close to the novel but not without one or two flaws in it, and the Cratchits looking older than the other versions of this classic christmas film but the trick is not to compare but to enjoy all the versions. 6.5 out of 10

Creep (2014, Patrick Brice)
Another FF film. The moral here? Never ever bloody anything ever it seems ...
A cash strapped documentary maker agrees to film an important event in a stranger's life. The key word is stranger here. Recommended. 2nd viewing.

The Legend Of Hell House (1973, John Hough)
3 'sensitives' are invited to an abode with a notorious history. Let the party begin!! Roddy McDowell emotes like it's going out of fashion and this fits in with this rather more muscular version of The Haunting. It"s in your face, literally .... Recommended.

Mad Dog Morgan (1976, Phillippe Mora)
Dennis Hopper fights the law (and credulity ... the Oirish accent slips more than a silent comedian walking a path made of bananas ). Regardless, this is a grim wee tale about the 'scourge of the outback' as he rocks and rolls around the place packing a pistol and whatnot. Typical mid 70s Oz flick. Noone from Neighbours neither!! Would recommend .... the print was a bit cropped. Decent version should look quite nice tbh.
