Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967)

Utterly bonkers twenties musical starring Julie Andrews as a Flapper girl who gets into all kinds of adventures, from Jewish weddings to Harold Lloyd style window ledge teetering and car chases to most bizarrely of all a white slavery ring.

Entertaining with some truly outstanding scenes - the lift where you have to dance to get it to move is a running delight - but at two and a half hours is just far too long.

The Fallow Field (2009)

No budget British effort which following a promising start very quickly runs out of steam.

I love films that delve deep into 'Wyrd England' but this isn't one of them.

Just rewatched Terminator Salvation (hadn't seen it for a number of years). Revisiting it, I decided that it's actually quite a dodgy film. I certainly don't regret my purchase but I won't keep it (can't go wrong for a pound from Cex and I always end up selling on around a third of my blu-ray purchases anyway).

Starts off pretty well and Anton Yelchin was a very good choice for a young Kyle Reese. But...Bale's Mr Shouty performance soon begins to grate. And film has daft stuff like terminators repeatedly throwing people around instead of just punching their hearts out (as in the original film).

And you have to wonder why Skynet is even collecting humans instead of instantly killing them? Doesn't make any sense. Even an appearance by Michael Ironside doesn't help much. And what's the point of the mute child character? Also, John Connor's other half is a veterinarian assistant in part 3 yet now she can transplant human hearts? The film has you asking constant questions like that. Film score - 5/10.

Next Sunday is a viewing of Terminator 3, hopefully I'll have better luck with that. At least that film has Arnie whilst he was still young enough to play the role and I recall the film having a great ending (which fixed the paradox of why John Connor still exists at the end of T2).

Tower Of Evil 1972.

A group of archaeologist got treasure hunting, soon they are being stalked and killed.

This was a decent British horror, that has a 60s type of gothic theme blended with 80s style slasher movie. The characters are more like a bunch of crazed pot smoking horny teens but aside the actors were good and script was written OK. The lighthouse and island sets the tone for the atmospheric part with claustrophobic sense, only downside I felt was the ending being a bit rushed. 6 out of 10.

Horror of Dracula 7/10

Kinda remember it being a bit better but still a great film.

Jaws: The Revenge (1987)

I'm pretty sure this was the first time i've ever sat through this third sequel to the wonderful Jaws.

It's fairly easy to sum up. The first half is maudlin shite and the second just shite.

It's almost criminal that the film makes no use whatsoever of John Williams classic 'duunnn dunnn' theme in a film totally devoid of tension.

I'm trying to think of positives and all i can really come up with is that Michael Caine is always watchable plus the shark has a clunky charm about it that would not be present in todays CGI world.
