When two hoodlums show up in a small town asking about petrol station attendant Ole Anderson also known as Swede he is warned buy a co-worker but he doesn't seem phased. When they catch up with Swede they gun him down where he lay in his bed without even trying to resist.

Insurance investigator Jim Reardon takes it upon himself to investigate the murder which takes him down a road with plenty of twists and turns many faces and many motives but its the beautiful Kitty Collins (Ava Gardner) that seems to link them all together.

Another beautifully acted film not one weak performance from anyone. The suspense it kept up right from the start until the ending. A great journey from the Swedes beginnings as a champion boxer forced to retire after sustaining a bad injury and his decent into a life of crime a prison sentence the loss of love and his attempts to get her back and rekindle the life they once had. The path to happiness is never straight or without danger especially with a beautiful woman is involved.

The witch who came from the sea. 1976.

Molly who babysits her nephews and works night shift as a waitress in a bar and is in a relationship with the manager and also represses the memories of the abuse she suffered at the hands of her father that leads her to kill.

This was a odd movie and obscure with the outline of the plot, Millie Perkins plays the role of Adult Molly who seems to enjoy things roughly and in flash back sequences we understand how and a slow downward spiral decent into madness. As well as she enjoys being with men it's like she actually despises men even having thoughts of their bloody gruesome deaths. The film may make little sense along with the slow pace but does have it's moments of disturbing, the killings are graphic that may make you squirm and the flash backs scenes may be uncomfortable to watch.

Watching Halloween 3: Season of the Witch

This film has really grown on me, it's got a lot going on & lots of people who worked on the first two are involved behind the scenes here.

Tom Atkins plays a doctor whose patient is murdered, he then teams up with the victim's daughter to try & get some answers, leading them to a "company town" which manufactures Halloween masks.

Lots more to this, it's a bit of a detective story with horror overtones, good fun & engaging all the way through.

Next up....Phantasm!

After a job goes a bit off piste a private investigator trades in the big city life for a small town away from prying eyes and opens up a petrol station to live a low key lifestyle of planning a future with his new lady and fishing. But you can never just walk away from the life especially when you leave a major loose end just swinging in the wind.

When big time gambler Whit Sterling is shit and robbed by his girlfriend and $40,000 is taken from him he hires Jeff Bailey to hunt her down and bring her back to him. Bailey catches up with her and the two fall in love and elope until Baileys old partner tracks them down and threatening to tell Whit where they are Kathie kills him and runs away. Bailey is left heartbroken when she never returns to him.

Years later Whit tracks Bailey down for another job to pay him back for double crossing him the first time and stealing his woman. To Baileys shock Kathie is back with Whit and after all the years the feelings come flooding for both of them but Bailey is no fool and he knows nothing about this deal is on the level. Who can he really trust if anyone.

Where as the other films in the genre i have seen are more suspenseful filled with beautiful woman shady characters and tough guys this one i felt at certain parts had more emotional parts where you feel for Bailey and especially his new girlfriend trusting that he would do the right thing and return to her to live happily ever after.

As great as the whole cast is here its Kirk Douglas that stands out for me. He is calm friendly and he always has a big smile on his face but its in the eyes you can tell he is not a man to be crossed and you are always left guessing his next move.

Excellent

Sam Raimi's first foray into genre films following Evil Dead one and two is an absolute joy. Taking inspiration from Grand Guignol and classic Universal monster and gangster movies as well as classic literature such as Phantom of the Opera, Darkman is a triumph. Liam Neeson takes the lead role and is perfect in it. Neeson's a big guy so has the natural physique for an avenging angel / superhero role as we've seen in later years but here he also carries off the tragedy in style as shown in his love affair with Francis McDormand.

You can still tell Darkman is a Sam Raimi movie, ideas and motifs from his Evil Dead movies remain and at times the screams and deaths of characters come over all Bruce Campbell, and the effects are memorably gloopy, but on the whole it's a more serious film than any of the Evil Dead ones.

It's also great to see Raimi allowed a budget for a movie as he certainly knows how to get the best out of one especially the thrilling finale which culminates in a twin helicopter stand off and chase above the streets of Los Angeles.

As the end credits rolled one question really hit me hard. Why the hell in thirty years have i only just seen this?
And yet here we are back on the same wavelength. Fantastic film is Darkman although your review begs the question why i haven't watched it in years.

A classic . A prison camp is built for British and American POW whom have made numerous escape attempts . The camp is supposed to be inescapable. But that doesn't stop the prisoners from trying. Most other films before they would break out and that's it but here we see ever thing that's need for an escape, ranging from clothes to official papers. Like a bridge to far this is a film of whos who of British and American talent of the time. Lots of memorable scenes including that motorcycle chase and the film has one the most recognisable iconic tunes of all time. Was McQueen the king of cool at the time of did that come after this in which he was the cooler king! Either way he will always be the king of cool. 10/10

Was flicking threw Amazon and noticed a film called the demons room which I thought I'll give a try.

When a group of demobilised soldiers hit a bar the night gets a bit out of hand when a Jewish man the group have befriended is found dead in his hotel room. Now every man is a suspect.

Crossfire examines many topics here the effects of war and spending prolonged time away from normal life and how it shapes and sometimes changes a man. The power and destructiveness of hatred bullying and how that that bring a man to his knees or maybe it can make him rise up and make him do things he never thought he was even capable of doing. This is a multilayered film with so many lessons that society could learn a lot from even today.

I'm sure back then this was a very risky controversial film exploring such taboo subjects but it is a brave film confronting these things head on. Great acting and a very hard hitting story.

Default Eddie The Eagle, The Damned United, Above The Rim & Young Guns

Eddie The Eagle

Hugh Jackman and Taron Egginton star in the true story of British Skyjumper Eddie Edwards's quest to compete in the 1988 Winter Olympics. Decent film, certainly got the Cool Runnings vibe from this. Some Olympics that year with Eddie and The Jamaican Bobsled Team competing.

The Damned United

True story of Brian Clough's disastrous time managing Leeds United, this good movie also covers his working relationship with Peter Taylor whilst managing Derby County

Above The Rim

A High School Basketball player can't decide whether he wants to play for his School's side or a Drug Dealer's for a competition. Tupac Shakur stars along with Leon (Cool Runnings) and Bernie Mac. Not a bad film and whilst watching I certainly got 90's nostalgia with the clothing and soundtrack.

Young Guns

80's Western starring Emilio Esteviz, Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland and Lou Diamond Phillips as a group of Ranch Regulators avenging the murder of their boss. Decent in it's day but I got bored watching it today.

Just ordered the second one this evening as part of a 4 for £8 from Music Magpie. Arnold (The Mummy) Vosloo takes over the role from Neeson but it (and the third one) are still supposed to be very good films.

Brazil. 1985.

A bureaucrat for a futuristic government has dreams of flying and a young woman then becomes a enemy when he is accused of being a terrorist.

First time seeing this film, i have always put off watching it as i thought it didn't/wouldn't appeal to me...i was so wrong, this was actually enjoyable from start to finish. It's something that is like today...Technology, everyone seems to rely on it and does tend to make big F+&k ups. The acting was solid and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves making it and great direction from Terry Gillian. There is very much a different genres as it goes on to Science-fiction, drama, thriller, fantasy and comedy and a guy wearing a big mask that would creep anyone out.
